There is a new halal fast-casual pizza restaurant in town – 800 Degrees Woodfired Kitchen at KINEX Mall. Homegrown F&B company, Deelish Brands, the same folks who first introduced the Fatburger chain of burger restaurants to us, now debuts an American woodfired oven pizza chain in Singapore.

800 Degrees Woodfire Kitchen, which boasts Miami Heat basketball stars, Dwayne Wade and Udonis Haslem as owners, are known for their Neopolitan-style woodfired pizza.

“Deelish Brands has a mission of being the customer’s first choice for trendy halal food,” says Deelish Brands Group CEO Moe Ibrahim. “This is why we’re taking brands that are loved in the West, adapting them for the rapidly growing halal consumer base, and launching authentic versions of them here at home in Singapore.”

Established by American chef Anthony Carron, one of the restaurant chain’s highlights is their woodfired oven, which brings the cooking temperature as high as 800 degrees Fahrenheit (hence the name), resulting in a leopard print char on the crust. 800 Degrees Woodfire Kitchen uses a blend of various types of wood to infuse each pizza with a unique smoky taste. As the oven is continually seasoned with use, the pizza is said to taste even better over time.

All the pizza are prepared using Neopolitan flour, imported from Naples, Italy. The flour is said to be custom milled with high protein content, resulting in an elastic dough for a crunchy, yet soft crust.

The pizzas are available in 10″ or 14″ sizes, with three options of pizza bases – Margherita (red sauce), Pesto (Verde sauce), or if you prefer no sauce at all, the Bianca (white base). Each pizza comes with Italian mozzarella as well as torn pieces of fresh mozzarella balls to give each pizza an artisanal touch.

We tried these during a media tasting:

The pizzas are all served piping hot, with the cheese oozing when you pull out a slice. It was shared with us that the pizzas served at the restaurant are all fired up for no more than 90 seconds in the woodfired oven for freshness and the best crust texture. Of the three bases sampled, we would recommend the Margarita base, the base for their signature Neopolitan pizzas.

You can customised your pizza with a wide array of toppings, including beef pepperoni, beef salami, Philly beefsteak, beef meatballs, prawns, cherry tomatoes, japapeno, green pepper, pineapple, arugula and even a whole burrata. If picking your own toppings is too much hassle, you can also choose one of their specialty pizzas such as the Spicy Meatball, the Philly Cheesesteak, BBQ Chicken, Pesto Chicken and Tartufo (Truffle Mushroom).

For those who prefer to skip the carbs, 800 Degrees Woodfire Kitchen also offers a signature Rotisserie Chicken, a succulent roasted chicken that is the result of a two-day process that begins with freshly cooked vegetable stock for the brine.

The fresh chicken are brined and then marinated in a proprietary blend of herbs or spices before they are roasted. The chicken comes with a choice of six different saunce options such as Peruvian Green, Truffle Ranch, Smokey BBQ or Blue Cheese; and four sides that include Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, Butter Corn or Garlic Butter Rice.

One of the biggest selling points for 800 Degrees Woodfire Kitchen has got to be their halal certification. It is claimed that they are the first Muslim-owned, halal pizza restaurant in Singapore with a woodfired oven. This would be a big draw for our Muslim friends in Singapore.
