5 new interior styles to try this spring

Looking to freshen up your home this spring? It’s the perfect time of year to revitalize your living space and update your interiors. Read on for some beautiful styling inspiration to breathe new life into your pad.

1. High-End Hotel

This trend is not for the faint-hearted. Swamped with luxury, the aim is to bring five-star hotel vibes to your humble abode. Think thick, deep carpets, marble bathrooms, and beds so large you could get lost in them. Velvet furnishings in navvy, deep red, and emerald green will hit the nail on the head and offer an opulent feel. Just ensure you invest in professionals to keep it spotless (particularly the drapes and carpets which will need a multi-step cleaning process at least twice a year) or you’ll end up looking more grubby than grandeur.

2. Neutral Is Nice

Earthy tones are bang on trend this spring and the look is easy to achieve. Keep the walls in soft taupes or greys and opt for a light-toned couch. Keep the décor minimal except for the plants. Adding an excess of greenery will bring the room to life and prevent it from looking two-dimensional. There are tons of house plants out there that are easy to care for such as spider plants, cacti, and cast-iron plants are virtually indestructible!

3. Colour Clash

The opposite of neutral, the colour clash movement brings bold colours to your home. Think grey paired with yellow, red contrasted by pink or orange coupled with lime green. This style is not for the faint-hearted but if you’re loud and proud, why not have a home that matches your personality! Integrate the trend in small bursts such as artwork or cushions to avoid giving yourself a headache.

5. Antique Appreciation

Vintage treasures are becoming highly popular in homes. With the revival in folksy interiors, this trend works hand-in-hand with traditional or period properties. Having items that have their own unique backgrounds and stories is far more interesting than the latest offering from Ikea. Plus, using second-hand furniture is also great for the planet! If your budget doesn’t stretch to auction houses, browse some second-hand fairs or charity shops to hunt down some special pieces.

6. Layer It Up

Whether it be artwork, accessories, or rugs, layering is big this season. Mix up textures by placing two rugs slightly overlapping – think fur laid upon a neutral jute rug or be bold with two contrasting patterns in complementary colourways. If you’re not a fan of rugs, pile cushions, and multiple throws over one couch. An added bonus is extra coziness for any chilly evenings. If you’re looking to spice up your walls put up a shelf and fill it with two rows of framed prints or photos in different shapes and sizes. It doesn’t have to look perfect – you’re aiming for beautiful chaos here.
