[#SupportLocal] Made in Singapore Lion Sauce Co. Original Hot Chili Sauce

The Circuit Breaker last year spawned many home-based kitchen as well as DIY F&B innovations. Lion Sauce Co. is one such recently launched Singapore food brand. Founded by F&B marketer, JD Ng, 40, the sauce is made with a recipe said to be perfected by Ng’s dad over several decades.

What started over thirty years ago as one man’s search for flavourful chilli sauce with enough fiery heat has led to the creation of Lion Sauce Co. and their Original Hot chilli sauce. A versatile condiment which balances sweetness and tanginess with fiery spiciness to wake up your taste buds. 

The sauce is available in two versions – Original Hot and Garlic, at S$12 per bottle or S$22 for a twin pack. You can order the sauce online from here. Delivery is available for Singapore addresses at S$5 per address.

According to Ng, more than 30 years ago, frustrated with the options available off the shelf, his father decided to learn to make his own chilli. His recipe is the culmination of years of trialling and testing; learning from others and trying out his own ideas. The end product is the Original Hot chili sauce which Lion Sauce Co. is now presenting to the world.

One key lesson shared by Ng’s father to the Lion Sauce Co. team was the importance of choosing the right chillies. He tested many over the years until he thoroughly understood how the chillies affected the final sauce. The team took his lesson to heart and went to great lengths to get the right chillies, taste-testing every batch of fresh chillies first before turning them into sauce.

One key point I noted when I look through the ingredient label was the short shelf life of approximately four months. This is due to the fact that no artificial flavourings, thickeners or colouring were added.

We tried both versions to pair them with various dishes over the Chinese New Year period, to good reviews from our family members.

The sauces are both of mid-fluidity, not too dense and not too watery. They are bot hot, but do not burn your tongues, with a tinge of sweetness. We use it to dip our steamboat items such as abalone, fish, beef and beancurd. They are versatile enough to go with everything.
