I’ve been using the Dyson V11 Absolute for more than a year now. This model is the most powerful and intelligent in Dyson’s range of vacuum cleaners. It still is, more than a year since its release in 2019.
What more could I want, if I am already using the most advanced vacuum model from Dyson? This was the question in my head as I try the Dyson V8 Fluffy for a comparison.
At 2.15kg, the Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy is lighter than the Dyson V11 Absolute which weighs in at 3.05kg.
A difference of 0.9kg might not look like much on paper, but boy does my wrists feel it and sing in thanks at the lighter load.
Perhaps if you are someone larger in build or stronger, this weight would not be significant, but I would say that for most people of ordinary build, the 0.9kg difference is pretty significant, especially if you vacuum regularly.
Because it is lighter and smaller, it is easier to use it to clean nooks and crannies, and also places off the ground such as the ceiling fan and bookshelves, as well as constrained spaces such as the interior of a car.
Engineered for Asian homes, the smaller soft roller cleaner head allows users to get into tight spaces and capture fine dust that other lightweight vacuums leave behind.
In terms of design, the V8 Slim looks similar to the V11 Absolute.
The main difference is that it doesn’t have the LED screen of the V11 which shows available cleaning time plus other real-time information such as power mode, filter maintenance reminders and blockage reports.
This LED screen is good to have, but not a must. So I am pretty neutral about this point.
Included together with the Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy are an assortment of cleaning tools, such as the new Slim Fluffy cleaner head (for floors and general use), a mini-motorized tool (for sofas or cushions), a combination tool (for table surfaces), a mini soft-dusting brush (for furniture) and a mattress tool. These tools will not be unfamiliar to users of other Dyson vacuums.
What caught my attention was the light-pipe crevice tool- a new accessory available with the Dyson V8 Slim Fluffy.
It has two LED lights that run along both sides of the crevice tool. It is useful for lighting up dark small spaces for better visibility of where to clean.
Both the V8 and V11 are similar in that a transparent bin in front of the trigger lets you see the amount of dust and dirt collected.
Dispose of the debris by holding the bin over your rubbish bin and lifting the ejection handle to open the bin’s bottom lid.
In terms of the very essence of a vacuum cleaner- the suction power, V11 Absolute wins. But this doesn’t mean that the V8 Slim Fluffy is a lightweight in sucking up dust and hair. It definitely does the job well, just that the V11 Absolute is a notch above at excellent.
In summary, if you are deciding between the two vacuums, you need to consider these factors: Excellent suction power + heavier in weight + pricier Versus good suction power + lighter in weight + cheaper + niftier in tight spaces.
The above are the factors for each individual to weigh up.
