Island Kitchen Collective: Japanese and Mediterranean Cuisine for your Dine-in Indulgence

Island Kitchen Collective is a new cloud kitchen launched earlier in October 2020. Available for online orders only, there are two menus- Wabi Sabi (Japanese cuisine) and Mercato Gatto (Mediterranean cuisine). Seafood lovers will be especially delighted because both menus have a strong focus on fresh catches from the sea.

Indulge in quality offerings

Pricing-wise, Island Kitchen Collective is for days when we want to indulge. It’s not for everyday lunches, at least not for humble me. For example, under the Wabi Sabi menu, the cheapest carb option I found is a $22 Donburi (Salmon Dance), and from the Mercato Gatto menu, it is a $14 Grain bowl (Greek Style Grilled Vegetable).

Island Kitchen Collective is great for when we want to treat ourselves to a nicer lunch, for when the boss is treating the team (hint hint=p), or even better- for bonding over a quality meal at home. That’s what I did for a party of 4, and the food hit all the right notes for us.

The food came on time and nicely warm. Perfect for digging in straightway. But first, pictures.

Can’t wait to prise open the lids
Tadah! What a spread

What I ordered from the Wabi Sabi menu

As a seafood lover, I ordered two different fish dishes to try. Hamachi Kama Shio ($35) and Miso-Glazed Black Cod (360g; $52). I must admit that I blinked at the prices, but after trying them, the quality and quantity had us nodding our heads and licking our lips in approval.

The Hamachi Kama Shio portion (Yellowtail collar) was really big, even bigger than my hand as you can see in the picture above. It lasted two meals for four of us. Grilled just right, with a thin crispy exterior and tender inside, the natural flavor of the fish was made all the more delectable simply by squeezing the accompanying lemon wedge over it. The Miso-Glazed Black Cod was amazing too. You would wax lyrical about its tender, luscious and melt-in-your-mouth quality.

Both fish dishes also came with a whole pickled plum each. The salty-sourness of the plum paired beautifully with the fish and really added oomph. Both dishes came with generous servings of edamame as well.

Double Trouble Salmon Roll ($16) is a very Instagram-able dish with its bright orange hue and big translucent orbs of salmon roe. Happy to report that it tastes as good as it looks.

$1 Sushi deals until 31 October 2020

Hit $50 and above in your order and you can get to cart out Sweet Egg Nigiri at just $1 (usual price $7). Hit $60 and you can cart out Tuna Nigiri at $1 (usual price $9). Promo is only until end of this month!

Couldn’t find any faults with the Salmon Aburi Nigiri ($16), and the Scallop Sashimi ($26) was very fresh as well.

What I ordered from the Mercato Gatto menu

Grilled Prawns (8pcs) $30 was very fresh and tasty, made all the better with the black charred bits (sinful, but so good). Was great with the creamy dipping sauce.

Together with the other seafood items I tried from the Wabi Sabi menu, special shoutout to Hamachi Kama Shio ($35) and Miso-Glazed Black Cod (360g; $52), I must say Island Kitchen Collective is deserving to be bookmarked on any Seafood lover’s browser.

Pita bread ($6) with Dip Duo ($16) – Baba Ganoush and Beetroot hummus
