We’re sure you already know only too well how good essential oils can be for you and your family when incorporated into your life. Even if you know what one does when compared to another, though, you are faced with the perplexing problem of choosing the right brand. Some brands, you see, are better than others. Some make claims about their products that they can’t substantiate, while others market their essential oils as one thing when really, they are a diluted form or not quite as advertised.
How then, do you work your way through the multitude of different products available to choose the very best essential oil brands? In the following post, that’s exactly what we are going to discuss.
It is so easy to pass essential oils off as one thing when they are not a pure form, which is why transparency is so vital. This is why you need to pay close attention to the labels. The labels can be used to compare the brands you are interested in.
On them, you should be able to easily find the botanical or Latin name for the plant or collection of plants, how they were grown, where they are sourced from or their country of origin, when it was distilled along with or alternatively its expiration date and whether it was made using fresh or dried.
You obviously need to know exactly what oils are present in the bottle. Be very wary of words and phrases like therapeutic grade, natural, and even pure. There is standardization with regards to what purity means, so it basically can be used to mean whatever the brand wants. However, don’t be quick to judge too harshly any company that does use those terms, just don’t look to them as an official stamp of industry approval.
Rather than just solely basing your decision on which brand’s products to invest in on the information they provide on the label, you could go one step further and look for any signs of verification. This could be in the form of third-party verifications and tests. You want to know things like what kind of tests are used and how often the oil is tested (twice for every fresh batch is a good standard).
Furthermore, you also want to know if the company is okay with posting all test results publicly or on-demand and crucially, whether they will provide the results of testing done on the batch you are interested in.
While it’s true that quality herbs and plants used in essential oils can be grown just about anywhere, the climate during the growing season and where they are grown can have an impact on the properties of them. Therefore, whenever you are interested in buying a particular essential oil, look into the best places to grow that where the best oil is likely to be produced and find brands that source them from those locations.
According to experts from Kumi, one of the best ways to ascertain whether a brand is worth investing in or not with anything is through word-of-mouth recommendations. Ask trusted people in your social circle which they like and the companies they trust. You shouldn’t see this as the golden ticket to making the right choice. Just because they had a good experience, after all, doesn’t mean that you are, but when someone you know and trust offers their opinion on something based on their experience, it holds more weight than a faceless corporation trying to promote their products. At the very least it should be one of the many factors you consider when making your final decision.
