[Review] Staycation at M Social Singapore

Itching for a staycation? Sometime last month, I went for a one-night staycation at M Social Singapore along Robertson Quay with my son. It was a much-needed getaway from the daily grind and the avant-garde aesthetics of famed French designer Philippe Starck, the man behind the hotel’s design, certainly upped the escape factor. Read on for our experience.

The iconic mural that has graced many an Instagram page
Modern hippie vibes

The narrow corridors patterned with undulating lines gave psychedelic vibes. Walking through it to our room certainly re-set my mind- Staycation mode on!

Our Room: Loft Terrace with Queen Bed

Check out the Fridge and basin underneath the staircase. Case-study in efficient use of space.
Small desk, just enough for one person. Fyi if you are considering to work-from-hotel
Queen bed. To be frank, it was a little sunken in the middle.
Asher felt like he was in a tree house. Indeed, you can see the crown of the tree outside from the loft bed!
Really loving the high ceiling. Being on the loft made me feel like I am on top of the world looking down on creation.

Attached to our room is a little outdoor garden with lush greens. Perfect for curling up to read a book.

Perfume workshop

Ours was the “Bottled Up Happiness” package, which includes a perfume workshop for us to customize our own fragrance to bring home. We happily suffered the tyranny of choice when faced with the wide array of scents available, especially with all their alluring and fantastical names such as “Cosmic Coke” (ps: I think it is supposed to smell like outer space).

The perfume expert was really knowledgeable, and guided us through all the considerations and steps patiently. If fragrance is not your thing and you prefer to get boozy, there’s another package available – “Mix & Stay”, where you can learn to make your own cocktail from the hotel’s resident mixologist.

Swimming pool and gym

Both the pool and gym are on the 5th floor of the hotel. The swimming pool isn’t big, but Asher had fun all the same, and it was good for me to swim a few laps as well. Floating in the pool, you see the sky framed by the surrounding skyscrapers. This is what being in an oasis in a concrete jungle feels like, I thought to myself.

Beast & Butterflies

The food options at Beast & Butterflies are family-friendly. There is the burger and fries- the standard kid-pleaser, and I suspect, for many of us adults as well. The oven-baked sea bass with lemon herbs and olive oil surpassed our expectations, and deserving of special mention is the thin-crusted apple pie- think juicy cinnamon caramelized apple pieces in a soft buttery crust.

Choose alfresco seating if the weather allows. We enjoyed an endless parade of dogs walking past us and the quayside breeze.
