Janice Wong, Singapore’s dessert Queen, launches new high tea series Cakes of Versailles to celebrate part in famous chef’s Yotam Ottolenghi film, “Ottolenghi and the Cakes of Versailles”.
This would be the first high tea set offering in the thirteen years of 2am: dessertbar’s history!
Watch the inspiration behind Janice Wong’s Cakes of Versailles high tea set in the trailer below. The film traces Ottolenghi’s quest to bring the sumptuous art and decadence of Versailles to life in cake form at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
“It was such an incredible experience to have been part of this film and work alongside such world-class talent, including Yotam Ottolenghi himself.
I wanted to do something that enabled me to share part of my experience with my guests back here in Singapore, and the idea of a high tea series seemed a great way to do this. I am also honoured to have collaborated with some of the chefs from the film to share some of their incredible creations with Singapore.”

The Cakes of Versailles high tea menu will run every weekend at 2am:dessertbar from 3 October through to 1 November, with limited sets available each day. For the first edition, Janice has collaborated with chefs from
the film, Sam Bompas & Harry Parr and Dinara Kasko, as well as local chef, Mohamed Al-Matin who have all created exclusive items for the menu offering.
Priced at S$45 per person, the menu features sweet treats including Prosecco Raspberry Jelly from Bompas & Parr, Strawberry Champagne Cake from Dinara, a selection of beautifully baked items such as pistachio and rose escargot from Al-Matin, as well as Janice’s Chestnut Quince Cake with Lemon Curd, Chantilly and Chocolate Chestnut Mousse.
The high tea set comes with a choice of tea or coffee. I would recommend going with the Marzipan Rose Tea, which has a slight bitterness to balance the sweetness of the desserts.
Behold this beautiful geometric cake by Ukranian architect turned baker Dinara Kasko. This three-tiered creation features fruits that would have been grown at the château and the motifs that Dinara found in the bas-relif of a castle of Versailles.
This architectural beauty of a cake would be sliced tableside so that you can admire it up close.
Chestnut Quince Cake by Janice Wong herself. This was a delight with the light fluffy Chantilly cream complementing the denser chestnut-chocolate filling.
This dainty creation took pride of place in one of the film’s posters.
Warm pastries by Singaporean Chef Mohamed Al-Matin, served in a glass jewelry case.
From the marbled tabletops, marbled serving stands and marbled chocolate designs, the design cohesiveness of the bar does not go unnoticed. Above each table is a pendant light with warm orangey glow, swinging gently and casting a moving shadow on the table. With such an chic setting and the beautiful Versailles-inspired confectionary, 2am: dessertbar makes for perfect hideaway for a leisurely afternoon.
Reservations can be made via 2am:dessertbar’s website here.
