It’s not an overstatement to say that coronavirus has significantly disrupted basically every aspect of global activity over the past six or so months. For many people, this has meant spending a lot of time inside their own home during some form of lockdown. Of course, no two governments, countries, or regions have reacted in the same way to the threat of COVID-19. And scientists are still learning new things about it every day. Still, today we’re going to look at a common problem that almost everyone has encountered at least once so far. Namely, how can you leave the house safely during lockdown? Check out our top six tips for doing so here:
Obviously, just about everyone would like to get outside and resume “normal life.” Until further notice, though, most people will have to continue amusing themselves in their own homes. At the end of the day, citizens should avoid leaving their home unless they have a very good reason to do so –– like going to work or picking up supplies. Whenever possible, look for delivery or curbside pickup alternatives.
More and more data points to the fact that time is a key element to the spread of coronavirus. As such, make it a point not to dawdle any time you leave your home. Do what you intend to do and head back inside.
Ideally, you should be able to leave your home for a bit of sunshine and exercise every day. Just make sure to keep your distance from other people when you do so. Unless you live in a very crowded area, you should be able to walk through a park or deserted street without encountering anyone up close.
The primary function of a mask is to prevent the spread of particles that may contain COVID-19. Unfortunately, wearing a mask may not provide a huge amount of protection to the wearer. Still, it’s important to wear a mask any time you know you won’t be able to adhere to six-feet of social distancing.
It’s a smart idea to wash your hands on a regular basis throughout the day anyway, but it’s particularly important to clean up after you go to the grocery store or pharmacy.
The bad news is that even if you follow all of these guidelines, you still could be at risk for contracting coronavirus. So make it a point to get tested if you have the opportunity, or if you begin to experience symptoms. Remember, right now scientists are using sophisticated tools like 5 ml serological pipettes to find ways to combat COVID-19. But until a breakthrough occurs, social distancing, general prudence, and regular testing are the best ways to protect yourself and others from this deadly disease.
