The Singapore branch of KidZania opened on Sentosa Island four years ago in April 2016, but has sadly been unable to achieve good business returns over the years. For the uninitiated, KidZania is a children’s amusement centre that can be found in various countries, providing fun activities for kids in an indoor kid-sized city.
With the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the country and affecting the economy, this hasn’t made things any better. This has caused KidZania Singapore to recently announce that they would be closing permanently.
In a recent Facebook post, they announced: “Our City will not be reopening its doors upon the lifting of circuit breaker measures and other social restrictions. Thank you for your love and support for the past 4 years.”
A total of 103 employees will be laid off in the process, all of which will be receiving the “appropriate severance packages” with salaries, medical, and other benefits up to their last day of service. Customers with annual passes and unused tickets may email KidZania at share@kidzania.com.sg.
Phase 2 of Singapore’s reopening started on June 19 with most businesses resuming while following the necessary safety measures. However, activities that involve a lot of people possibly coming into close proximity of one another will still take time, according to Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development.
