While we’ve all probably boarded a bus and quickly forgot that we didn’t have enough coins for the fare, this commuter shamed a bus driver for offering a simple solution to this common problem–beg.
In a Facebook post, a commuter called a bus driver arrogant and rude for an encounter regarding the bus fare for the trip.
According to the post, the commuter and a companion had boarded a bus only to find out that the latter’s wallet was missing, and would be unable to pay for the fare.
The commuter then gave a $50 bill, but the bus driver said that it would not be accepted. When the commuter showed the driver that the coins they had would not cover both fares, and that they lacked 40 cents for the total.
Seeing the two commuters’ problem, the bus driver gave them a simple solution–ask the rest of the passengers for spare change to help. But the person who posted about the event said that it was a very grave insult.
“He embarrassed us by asking us to ask for coins from the other passenger therefore we felt humiliated. So I told him that we would call and give a complaint but he told us that he would tell his superior about this incident,” the man said in the status.
Take a look at the post here:
The commuter also put text on the bus driver’s photo, saying that the driver “loves to humiliate people!”
The full text of the commuter’s post reads:
Vehicle number [redacted] this bus driver is very rude, unreasonable and arrogant. We have boarded the bus and my friend thought (sic) he lost his wallet. I have to pay for him but I left one $50. So we told him the situation and I pay him all my coins, but I was only short of 40 cents and the thing is nobody will use a 50 dollar bill to take a bus. We were honest and told him about it. He embarrassed us by asking us to ask for coins from the other passengers therefore we felt humiliated. So I told him that we could call and give a complaint but he told us that he would tell his superior about this incident. So I would rather post it here to let everyone know about how does SBS employees deal with their situation. I told him I would post it on social media due to our humiliation to beg for 40 cents from other passengers. And his reaction totally changed and did not move the bus and kept trying to persuade us that it is not his fault.
The commuter may have been looking for sympathy from Singaporean netizens, but it seems that this backfired quite spectacularly.
It seems that netizens don’t agree with the commuter’s view, and sided with the bus driver who literally had no fault.
Commenters are saying it wasn’t even the driver’s problem, and that the commuter should have used the $50 to pay for a Grab instead.
Other netizens have said that they also could have gotten a fare card to pay.
