Shopee unveils Global Deals in Singapore – a dedicated in-app space where users can access more than 50 million deals direct from six popular shopping destinations — namely China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Global Deals is easily accessible via a dedicated button on the Shopee homepage. Underlining an upward trend in shoppers’ preference for overseas products, the newly launched Global Deals features a curation of top brands, products and deals.
In addition, Shopee users can enjoy free shipping with no minimum spend and have their purchases delivered directly to their doorsteps; in as early as three working days.
According to Shopee’s Global Deals Survey 2019 which polled over 4,000 Singaporeans about their overseas online purchasing habits, around 3 in 4 users shop from overseas brands at least once a month. More than 90% of survey respondents indicated that they buy overseas products on Shopee more today, as compared to three years earlier. Reasons cited include convenience, cost-savings, increased product variety and being able to purchase products not available in Singapore.
The survey also found that shoppers prefer to purchase overseas products from sellers who have a wide variety of products available (70%) and offer free shipping (30%). A recent yStats report found Singapore to be the top market for cross-border shopping in Southeast Asia, and according to a Forrester report, 60% of e-commerce sales consist of overseas orders.
Over the years, Japanese brands have increasingly made inroads in Singapore. In fact, Japanese retailers have been gaining ground in the local retail scene, with the entrance of a new wave of Japanese fashion labels and discount stores2. When it comes to purchasing Japanese products, quality (70%), variety (75%) and items that are not available in Singapore (73%) are what fuels the appetite of Singaporean shoppers.
Shopee recently launched Japan Plaza – a one-stop collection featuring a plethora of Japanese products. Japan Plaza, the newest addition to Global Deals, also premieres products from Japan’s leading retailer, AEON, who made their debut in Singapore through Shopee. Popular products from AEON include placenta jelly and collagen powder. Since the launch, sellers have seen over 72 times increase in sales.
As almost 85% of Shopee users have purchased overseas products from Shopee before, the newly launched Global Deals aims to meet their demands with the addition of around 42% more brands and sellers across all categories. For example, top brands include Xiaozhainv from China Marketplace and AEON from Japan Plaza.
In Singapore, Shopee’s 11.11 Big Sale will run from 22 October to 11 November, featuring three weeks of upsized promotions and entertainment. During the campaign, shoppers can look forward to free shipping and 10% cashback with no minimum spend, as well as the return of themed days, including 11.11 Global Deals Day on 3 November.
On this day, shoppers can enjoy great deals and discounts of up to 90% on overseas products, $0.99 flash deals and more.
