Two weeks back, we wrote about why now’s the best time for you to buy that Huawei smartphone you’ve been eyeing. And it looks like Challenger and COURTS, two of Singapore’s leading IT retailers, definitely agree.
Both retailers have stepped up to offer a risk-free Assurance Warranty for Huawei devices. This includes a 100% money-back guarantee if Google Mobile Services and other selected apps stop working within the warranty period—2 years for handsets and 1 year for tablets.
The initiatives are backed by Challenger and COURTS themselves, independent of Huawei, and are available at all their physical stores as well as Hachi.tech and the COURTS Online Store.
In addition to Huawei’s own 2-year HiCare service warranty, these retailer-led app protection programmes have also sprung up in Malaysia and the Philippines.
Speaking to Mumbrella, a COURTS spokesperson said, “In light of the recent spotlight on Huawei products, we felt that this retailer-led programme will allow [customers] to shop with peace of mind.”
This rallying move from retailers comes at a time when the US and China are “about 90 per cent of the way” to a deal, according to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. With the G20 summit happening in Osaka this weekend, Mnuchin is confident that US President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping will be able to make progress in their stalled trade talks.
Although we don’t know yet what will happen, a deal between the two is likely to ease the burden of their rivalry on Huawei. Regardless, for their part, the company remains confident about future plans.
Huawei UK put out a statement last week to reaffirm their commitment to their customers, stating, “All Huawei smartphones and tablets will continue to receive security patches and Android updates.”
They have also set up an FAQ website to address rumours and common points of confusion about current and future Huawei devices.
What’s more, proving that they walk the talk, Huawei began another EMUI 9.1 rollout earlier this week for a whopping 49 older Huawei and Honor devices, all the way down to the 2016 Mate 9 series.
With these updates from Huawei and the new Assurance Warranty by their retail partners, things certainly seem to be looking up for Huawei fans. The Assurance Warranty is valid for Huawei devices bought from 22 June to 31 August 2019. Full terms and conditions here: Challenger, Hachi.tech, COURTS.
