[Singapore Staycation] Project 210 at Naumi Hotel Singapore

How do you increase the occupancy rate of a low-floor, windowless hotel room?

Innovate with good design and that’s what Project 210 is all about.

Project 210 is a collaboration between Naumi Hotel Singapore and interior design students from local tertiary institutions, in partnership with Goodrich Global and XTRA, to design a hotel room that appeals to the next generation of travellers. Named Project 210, after the room number, up and coming young local talents are given a blank canvas to get creative and turn their designs to the next ‘Instagram-worthy’ space in Singapore, following the design ethos of designer-inspired rooms at the hotel.

The room will adapt a pop-up concept that will be refreshed with a new commissioned design every quarter, providing guests a new experience on their next visit. The pop-up room will be an addition to the current inventory of four designer-themed rooms available at the hotel.

The first team to be awarded the coveted opportunity comprises of Nurul Hanis, Nia Astira, Nuri Khairiyyah and Tracy Lim, final-year Retail and Hospitality Design students from Temasek Polytechnic.

The opening concept for Project 210 was launched during Singapore Design Week 2019 and is inspired by Tyler the Creator, a creative personality in music, TV and fashion. The concept uses colour-blocks in bold hues and contrasting graphic prints, making the room vibrant, and playful.

I stayed at room 210 for a night with my son, Asher, and we love the cheerful vibe the room exudes. It’s brimful of positivity and made our stay a very happy one. For the Instagram generation, this room has lots of Instagram-worthy angles for selfies and wefies.

The best spot would have to be at the dressing table whereby a mirror image mural is reflected into the mirror so that you can get a picture of youself in your #ootd with an inspirational quote behind you before you head out.

The bee theme adds to the overall exuberant and reminds me of the recently launched newgen retail space, habitat by honestbee. The Tyler room at Naumi Hotel Singapore will still be around till the next quarter when the hotel will replace it with another concept. You can contact the hotel for a reservation.

Located next to the iconic Raffles Hotel and between Raffles City and Bugis Junction, Naumi Hotel Singapore is a fairly new, privately owned, four-star hotel which seeks to appeal to a younger travel crowd who would have different needs from the older generations of travelers.

The rooms at Naumi Hotel are thoughtfully designed for the tech-savvy travellers with lots of charging ports and all your other hotel essentials tucked away where you may need them. There are storage drawers right under the beds, cutesy messages addressing you directly, bespoke coffee capsules, among other mass personalisation interaction points which millennials will appreciate.

For facilities, the hotel features a rooftop infinity pool and an in-house restaurant, Table Restaurant & Bar by Rang Mahal on the ground floor that serves a slew of authentic traditional indian dishes.

The food items we sampled at Table Restaurant & Bar.:

The full menu is available here. We particularly enjoyed their signature Butter Garlic Prawns, Handi Gosht (slow cooked lamb curry with hand-pounded spices) and Murg Tikka Dhaba Biryani.

Complementary breakfast is served at the same restaurant via an international buffet spread. What’s interesting here is that they provide unconventional items likes protein shakes and health supplements!

For a staycation, the hotel’s central location makes it an ideal spot to explore the city centre in Singapore. After checking in, Asher and I explored the area on foot and was able to keep ourselves occupied throughout our stay without having to venture farther than a 1 km radius from the hotel.

The National Library is nearby and we went there on the first day to borrow some books to read in the hotel. We then headed to Bugis Junction and Bugis+ for lunch and shopping. We then had dinner at Table Restaurant & Bar..

The next day, we went to the pool for a swim and then head out to Raffles City, CHIJMES, Suntec City and the Esplanade to explore before checking out.

For more details on staying at Naumi Hotel, visit the official website. Other than the Tyler room for Project 210, they have a slew of other designer rooms to choose from for those who want to experience an unconventional hotel stay.
