Huawei lights up Singapore buildings with square icon, signalling the arrival of the HUAWEI Mate 20 series

The HUAWEI Mate 20 Series is here in Singapore and the world’s number two smartphone seller marked its arrival in our smart nation with an illuminated square icon projected onto various iconic buildings here including Raffles City, Bugis Junction and Plaza Singapore over the weekend.

Huawei’s latest smartphones Mate20 and Mate20 Pro were launched in London earlier this month and were there to witness the event and provide a first-hand account of our experience with the smartphones.

Why use a square icon?

If you are wondering about the square icon projection, it reflects the design of the camera array found on the rear of the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series that looks like this:

The new Leica Triple Camera and flash is arranged in a special two-by-two matrix that is recognisable even at a distance. The preview of the stunt can be viewed here with a full video to be shared on the Huawei Mobile Facebook page this weekend:

“The all-new HUAWEI Mate 20 Series takes the smartphone standards of today to a higher level; bringing reimagined photography capabilities, enhanced AI experiences and ultimately being a smarter phone for the discerning user.” Shared Jonathan Ye, Head of Digital APAC and Marketing Director of Huawei Consumer Business Group Singapore.

“The camera setup at the back of the phone is iconic for us and it truly stands out in the market. We wanted to take this to the spotlight to encourage imagination and excitement among the crowds as we look forward to our local launch on 27 October.” He added.

What’s new with the Mate 20 series?

The HUAWEI Mate 20 series features an advanced Leica triple camera system with an Ultra Wide Angle Lens that allows users to capture more with a wider field of view. The new camera system also supports macro distance, which produces crisp images of objects that are captured as close as 2.5cm from the lens.

Building on interactive experiences with new AI capabilities, the HUAWEI Mate 20 Series is able to help users identify historic landmarks, famous artwork and even the nutritional value of most foods.
