Enjoy an oriental buffet feast this Christmas at KUVO by TCC

From the same F&B group behind the TCC chain and INDOCAFE – The White House in Singapore, KUVO by TCC is an oriental fine dining concept located on the second floor of Orchard Shopping Centre, just beside 313@Somerset. While it is conveniently located in the heart of the Orchard shopping belt, the restaurant is in a blind spot area which shoppers tend to miss and makes for a quiet, exquisite dining experience amidst the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road.

The restaurant serves up a wide array of oriental delights, presented in a contemporary, fine dining setting via an a la carte buffet menu at S$38++ per pax for weekday dinner; S$32++ per pax for weekend lunch; and S$42++ per pax for weekend dinner. The price is a steal for the quality of the food and the restaurant ambient.

I was told that the head chef at KUVO was former apprentice of the famous Chef Chan Chen Hei, one of Singapore’s top Cantonese chefs. As such some similar items to Chef Chan’s most famous dishes like the Crispy Spring Chicken and Black Pepper Beef Cube are KUVO’s menu too.

The full a la carte buffet menu has a selection of 23 items which diners can order unlimited quantity of and a selection of 6 premium dishes whereby diners will be served with one serving each. Here are some of the highlights:

Special Crispy Spring Chicken
Black Pepper Beef Cube
Deep-fried Honshimeji mushroom with golden crumbs
Braised pork belly roll with yam
Sauteed string bean with preserved turnip
Poached Chinese spinach with trio egg in superior broth
Wok-fried mee sua with shrimp
Zhen Jiang pork spare ribs
Steamed firsh with olive vegetable in black bean sauce
Steamed fish with house-made sauce
Braised pork belly with hakka preserved vegetable
Clams in special sauce
Char Siew Roll
Crispy shrimp wonton
Truffle flavoured pork dumpling
Seafood radish cake with XO sauce
Spicy lava deep-fried prawn roll
Calamansi jelly

The special dishes which are limited to one serving per diner:

Crispy suckling pig with prawn paste (dinner only)
Fish maw collagen soup
Braised abalone and superior broth rice with truffle oil
Steamed blue shell mussels
Grilled Hokkaido squid
Sauteed tiger prawn with salted egg yolk

Specially for the festive period, KUVO launched a limited time only Festive Buffet with Oriental Flair, priced at S$68++ per adult and S$35++ per child. This will feature a live station with special items like the Turkey Wonton Noodle Soup and Fresh Shucked Oysters; a carving station for Prawn Paste Stuffed Turkey Roulade and Gourmet Honey Glazed Ham.

Here are some of the items I sampled from the festive buffet menu:

Chilled Squid in Coriander-Chili Dressing
Prawn Paste Stuffed Turkey Roulade
Champagne Pork Rib
Turkey Wonton Noodle Soup
Turkey stuffing
Wok-fried Prawn with Special Sauce
Fried Egg in Crispy Cup
Winter Pumpkin and Spare Rib Broth
Snapper Loin Tossed in Cranberry-Pineapple Sauce
Garlicky Hong Kong Kailan
Fresh Shucked Oysters
Orange Peel Daikon Roll
Christmas Logcake
Mango Sago

Verdict?

The food was really good! So good that I made a reservation that very weekend and brought my family down for lunch. Everyone enjoyed the meal just as much as I did during the tasting. If you are ordering from the regular menu, the crispy suckling pig with prawn paste is an absolute delight, as are the other premium dishes like the braised abalone and superior broth rice with truffle oil; sauteed tiger prawn with salted egg yolk; grilled Hokkaido squid; steamed blue shell mussels and chili crab (dinner only, minimum of 4 pax), which are limited to one serving per diner. Recommended items off the unlimited orders section will be the black pepper beef cube which are my absolute favourite; the Zhen Jiang Pork Spare Ribs; Char Siew Rolls; Spicy Lava Deep-Fried Prawn Roll; Deep-Fried Mushroom; Fish Maw Collagen Soup and Crispy Spring Chicken.

From the Christmas menu, the standout dishes for me was the Turkey Wonton Noodle Soup, Champagne Pork Rib and Wok-Fried Prawn. The latter is served in a sweet and sour sauce which is finger licking good. For the turkey wonton dish, this was a surprise as I usually do not like turkey meat which is tough and dry. Served in a dumpling form in a soup, this makes it very palatable.

If you would like a change from western-style food this Christmas or New Year, do consider dining at KUVO.
