EDM acts Calvin Harris and The Chainsmokers bring the party to 2017 F1® Singapore Grand Prix

It isn’t an iconic Formula 1® night race without a stellar line-up of international acts.

Over the weekend, the tenth edition of Formula 1® Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix saw the likes of pop sensation Ariana Grande, all-time classic Duran Duran and of course, your favourite electronic acts – The Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris.

While engines were revving up along the race circuits, these artistes took centrestage at the concert with their astounding performances. Well, the race weekend was undoubtedly fantastic and here are some highlights we are still reeling from.

Ariana Grande had everyone in rhapsody with her vocal prowess

When you have the likes of OneRepublic, Ariana Grande and Duran Duran performing onstage, it’s only natural that a sea of smartphones are up amongst the crowds. Everyone can’t wait to get a shot of their favourite artistes putting up a riveting performance.

While Ariana Grande may be petite, her vocals are quite the opposite. As the sensational songstress belted out familiar tunes such as One Last Time and Love Me Harder, you can be sure all eyes were on her.

From the very moment she came onto the stage, she had concert-goers enthralled with smash hits such as Side To Side (featuring Nicki Minaj) and Bang Bang (featuring Jessie J and Nicki Minaj). You can even hear her Ariana Army, also known as Arianators, ardently singing along to every word in the lyrics.

The Chainsmokers electrifies with their bangers

Formula 1® and EDM fans alike, would certainly relish the impressive performances put up by headliners like The Chainsmokers and Calvin Harris. Both of them closed concert nights for Saturday and Sunday during the race weekend  respectively and one thing’s for sure, no one is complaining about that.

The American electronic duo catapulted to international fame when their hit single ‘#Selfie’ went viral, back in 2014. Ever since, they have taken off big-time and been churning out catchy tunes you can’t help but to dance to.

EDM fans will certainly adore this pair for their trademark hits in the likes of ‘Closer’ (featuring Halsey), as their name becomes a byword for massively successful bangers.

It’s hard not to with their rousing beats and a sense of novelty to the music they produce in the fiercely competitive EDM scene.

Likewise, The Chainsmokers delivered an amazing set that comes replete with seductive mixes the crowd couldn’t get enough of.

Even non-EDM fans will love their set as they drop massive hits such as ‘Something Just Like This’ (featuring Coldplay), alongside technicolour display that was a feast for the eyes.

You just got to give Calvin Harris MAJOR credit for his set as he had the crowd clamouring for more up till the end.

From the moment he started off with ‘Sweet Nothing’ (featuring Florence Welch), he had everyone hooked. There is simply no lack of high-octane energy going around the crowd as the Scottish DJ-record producer left no time to catch a breather with his smash hits one after another.

The crowd went ballistic when he dropped chart-toppers such as ‘Blame’ (featuring John Newman) and Rihanna’s We Found Love, in which he was featured.

Between playing his previous hits and recent releases on his latest album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, he didn’t forget to feature one of his latest songs, ‘Slide’ (featuring Frank Ocean and Migos).

Just when you thought the concert has reached the climax, Calvin Harris took it up a notch with the hottest dance song of the moment – ‘Despacito’. This electronic and dance music heavyweight sure knows how to titillate his crowd even further.

By the time he played his last song for the night, we were completely spent – from all the dancing – and even more so than that; we were utterly sold.

As with Formula 1® night races here in Singapore, we just can’t get enough of its accompanying star-studded concerts so we were euphoric upon learning that Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix had been extended for another four years.

Needless to say, we are anticipating the eleventh edition in 2018 with bated breath!
