I have been using the Fitbit Alta exercise wrist band for over a year and it was one of the crucial factors which guided me along my weight lost journey last year whereby I successfully lost 20kg.
I chose the Fitbit Alta over over other fitness wearables because of it’s slim build which makes it less of a hindrance when I am exercising. One major grouse I had over the Alta is that it is not waterproof and cannot track my regular swims.
My exercise routine is simple. I try my best to clock at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, 7 days a week. This features a mix of jogging, cycling and swimming.
While the first two activities are tracked by my Alta, I was always sore that my weekly swims were not recorded into my fitness progress on my Fitbit app which I use to monitor my overall fitness wellbeing.
Now with the new swim-proof Fitbit Flex 2, all my weekly exercises can be recorded within one platform.
I tested the Flex 2 out for my regular swims and I am satisfied with the performance. I was afraid of it falling off when I do the front crawl due to the heavy thrashing, but the lock on the band is tighter than that of the Alta and works out okay. The band is also ultra slim and do not act as a hindrance to my swim strokes.
The Fitbit Flex 2 was introduced together with the Fitbit Charge 2. The Charge 2 now features a new design with a larger display and interchangeable bands that easily let you go from a workout to a night out.
The ultra-slim Flex 2 is the first-ever swim-proof fitness wristband featuring a removable tracker that transforms with classic bands, elegant bangles or pendants. I probably don’t need it as a fashion accessory, but the ladies will be delighted to have that option.
“Over the past nine years it has been our ability to innovate on both design and utility, and our deep understanding of what consumers want that has made us the leading global wearables company,” said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.
“Flex quickly became the best-selling tracker on the market as one of the first wearables to successfully merge fitness and fashion; we’ve revolutionised Flex 2 by making it swim-proof and adding more features in a design than is 30% smaller than the original. We broke new ground with Charge HR by making wrist-based heart rate accessible to millions of users around the world, and we’ve done it again with Charge 2, giving users a snapshot of their cardio fitness based on estimated VO2 Max.”
This is a company that listens to their customers and I am very happy Fitbit have finally released a water-proof fitness wearable that can complete all my fitness tracking.
As Fitbit’s first swim-proof wristband, Flex 2 is water resistant up to 50 meters, whether you’re in the shower, pool or ocean, and it automatically tracks your
pool swims including laps, duration and calories burned in the Fitbit App.
Other key features include the SmartTrack automatic exercise tracking that recognises select workouts like walks, runs, rides, elliptical, sports, aerobic workouts, and now swims; Reminders to Move to help you stay active with friendly reminders to reach mini hourly step goals; and a simple LED display using colour-coded lights to show progress towards your daily goal and keeps you connected with call and text notifications.
The LED display was a little confusing for me at the beginning, but you will get used to it after a while. The Fitbit Flex 2 now complements my Fitbit Alta to track all my fitness progress within one platform and I am very happy this is finally possible.
