Why all kids will love Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts with Julia Donaldson

UK’s award-winning author, Julia Donaldson needs no introduction in the world of children’s books.

The author of the popular Gruffalos children’s books series is currently in Singapore, gracing the stage to perform at a brand-new show for Kidsfest 2017 Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts.

We caught the performance on the first night and here’s why we think the show will be a hit with all kids.

1.

Five stories in one show

The show features a combination of the most iconic characters from five of Donaldson’s best-selling books – The Gruffalo; What the Ladybird Heard; Zog; A Squash and a Squeeze; Jack and the Flumflum Tree.

Kids will get to relive five of their favourite tales on stage versus just one story.

2.

The stories are all from Donaldson’s best-selling books

If the kids really love any of the five stories, the books can be purchased to be reread again. This is also helpful in encouraging kids to take up reading and enjoy books more.

3.

Julia Donaldson is performing in the show

The five-member cast includes Julia herself, Malcolm Donaldson, her husband who plays the guitar and Julia’s sister, Mary Moore. Hence you won’t be seeing just Julia herself, but her immediate family members too.

4.

Kids get to participate on stage

Without giving away too much of the show, there are many participatory segments for kids to join Julia Donaldson and the rest of the cast on stage, performing simple song and dance.

This show is specially tailored for the little ones and there is no fuss if they are going to be restless and moving around during the show.

5.

Book-signing after the show

If you have copies of any of Donaldson’s best-selling books, you can get them autographed at the end of the show. Note that the book signing is limited to one book per child.

Even if you do not have a book at hand, there is a pop-up bookstore at the theatre venue whereby you can purchase new books for signing.

Worried about your kids getting bored, waiting too long in the queue to get their books signed?

Fret not, the cast will be roving around performing live song and dance to keep the little ones entertained. How thoughtful!

“Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts with Julia Donaldson” will be showing at the Victoria Theatre from 19 to 22 January 2017. Get your tickets ASAP if you want to catch it as it will end it’s run this weekend.
