On 13 December, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia held the PlayStation Awards 2016 ceremony to award PlayStation software titles that have had a great performance in Japan and other Asian regions.
Since 1994, the year when PlayStation was launched, the PlayStation Awards has been held every year and more than 320 titles have been awarded.
To honour game creators for their efforts, titles that have accumulatively shipped and downloaded more than 500,000 copies were awarded the Gold Prize, and 3 titles that had the best sales through PlayStation Network were awarded PlayStation Network Award, while Users’ Choice Awardsnd were awarded to the 10 titles that got the highest numbers of votes from users.
This year, two new awards, PlayStation VR Special Award and Indie Special Award were added.
PlayStation VR Special Award was awarded to 5 titles that contributed a lot to the launch of PlayStation VR in both Asia and Japan regions. Indie Special Award was awarded to 5 indie titles which contributed to PlayStation title lineups.
In conjunction with the PlayStation Awards 2016, starting from 14 December, 2016, PlayStation Awards 2016 winning titles campaigns will be held on PlayStation Store (PS Store).
In Singapore, Hong Kong and the Southeast Asia region, a special page was set up on the PS Store to introduce the winning titles. Customers who download the winning titles between 13 and 19 December will receive PlayStation Network Prepaid Value as rebate.
