Cruising the Alaskan Seas with Crown Princess – Things to do on the ship

Earlier this year, I went on a fly-cruise with Princess Cruises, flying from Singapore to Seattle and setting off from the port for a 7-day cruise to tour the Alaskan seas, stopping at Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan in Alaska, America and Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada.

I will be sharing about the individual shore excursions in later posts. In this post, I would like to share on the slew of activities available onboard the Crown Princess, the ship I sailed with.

Crown Princess is one of the largest Princess cruise ships, with room for 3,080 guests. From her nearly 900 balconies, you can enjoy sweeping views of romantic landscapes across the world.

1.
All the glorious free food

What is a cruise vacation without a free flow of good food?

If you prefer a more formal and fine dining environment whereby you are served at the table by professional wait staff, the Anytime Dining at either the Michelangelo Dining Room or Da Vinci Dining Room is the place to be.

The menu is refreshed daily so there is always something new on top of the mainstays. Here is a small sample of the good stuff I tried during my time on Crown Princess.

Escargots (French snails)
Fruit and shrimp salad
Vietnamese spring roll
Braised tofu
Mushroom soup
Scallops

If you don’t feel like leaving your room, you can even just order room service at no additional charges!

2.
Indulge you tastebuds with a little top-up

If you feel like indulging yourself a bit to reward your tastebuds, head down to one of the many specialty dining options like Crown Grill (steak and grill), Sabatini’s (traditional Italian), The Salty Dog Gastropub and the Ultimate Balcony Dining.

There are premium items like lobsters, Alaskan salmon, crabs and more available on the menu. The top-up still cost much less than if you choose to dine on shore at restaurants of similar standards and is a mighty good deal.

3.
Broadway-style entertainment and other quality acts

There are lots of entertainment and nightlife onboard for everyone. Illuminating the stage in captivating productions, the performers on the Crown Princess are some of the most talented musicians, singers and dancers at sea, whipping out familiar tunes in magical musicals.

There are also guest stars like magicians and comedians. American family music group, The Osmonds were performing when I was on the ship and they drew a packed theatre.

5.
Hit the gym or use the other sports facilities

Hit the gym

The Crown Princess feature a well-equipped gym which I visited everyday to keep fit. There are free stretching and exercise classes available with qualified instructors at different time of the day.

There is also a nice jogging track on the top deck of the ship. I like to jog there in the morning to enjoy the Alaskan sea breeze. It can get pretty chilly so dress appropriately in warm sports wear if you want to jog outside.

7.
Enjoy the sceneries

The views are so fantastic that I can just stand on the top deck the whole day when we are in the Glacier Bay area, watching the passing glaciers and hearing the occasional glacier popping.

There will be announcements from the ship crew when there are humpback whale or other marine lives spotted near the ship. Pay attention to those! I managed to get some awesome shots of the humpback whales, thanks to the crew.

8.

There is a variety of games and activities daily like towel folding competition and tutorial, zumba dance classes, mini-golf and many others.
