From the creators of Shrek comes DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls, a smart, funny and irreverent comedy about the search for happiness, and just how far some will go to get it. This hilarious film transports audiences to a colourful, wondrous world populated by the overly optimistic Trolls, who have a constant dance in their step and a song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have Trolls in their stomachs.
Synopsis:
After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), the happiest Troll ever born, and the overly-cautious curmudgeonly Branch (Justin Timberlake) set off on a journey to rescue her friends. Together, this mismatched duo embarks on a mission full of adventure and mishaps – trying to tolerate each other long enough to get the job done. Utilising music to further the film’s narrative, the Trolls soundtrack is produced by Justin Timberlake and features five original songs, including songs by Justin Timberlake and Gwen Stefani, in addition to a number of classic hits from the ‘60s – ‘80s.
The movie is now showing in Singapore cinemas and here are five awesome reasons why you should go catch it:
1.
Justin Timberlake is the executive producer for the film’s music
Timberlake served as an executive producer for the film’s music, and released the original song “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” on May 6, 2016. The song reached No. 1 in 17 countries, including the United States and Canada. He also got Gwen Stefani and Ariana Grande on board for the soundtrack.
Expect lots of great songs featuring some of the best music talents!
2.
All that rainbow colours and hairs…
just make people happy don’t you think? Even my son Asher and his classmate can’t help getting all cheery when they don the Trolls wigs.
3.
The musical features classic hits from the ‘60s – ‘80s
So that mummy and daddy don’t get left out while the little ones enjoy the musical, Trolls will feature a number of familiar hits from good old ’60s to ’80s. Anyone up for Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors or Earth, Wind & Fire’s September?
4. Good reviews
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Trolls has an approval rating of 75%, based on 76 reviews, with an average rating of 6.3/10. The site’s critical consensus reads, “Trolls brings its instantly recognizable characters to the big screen in a colorful adventure that, while geared toward the younger set, isn’t without rewards for parents.”
5.
DreamWorks has big plans for Trolls
In April 2013, DreamWorks Animation acquired the intellectual property for the Trolls franchise from the Dam Family and Dam Things, the Trolls creator. Having “big plans for the franchise,” DreamWorks Animation became the exclusive worldwide licensor of the merchandise rights, except for Scandinavia, where Dam Things remains the licensor.
Expect more sequels to come and you won’t want to miss the first movie that started it all! Not to mention a revival of the Trolls toy craze!
The dolls were originally created in 1959 and became one of the United States’ biggest toy fads in the early 1960s. They became fads again in brief periods from the 1970s through the 1990s and were copied by several manufacturers under different names. Expect the fad for the “Good Luck Trolls” to come back again.
If watching the show can bring you good luck, this should be the movie to catch before the end of 2016 to start afresh in 2017! 🙂
