The next stop, The Song of India, is the only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in the whole of Southeast Asia. If you are looking for a place for the best Indian food in town, you can’t go wrong with The Song of India!
The restaurant is located in a standalone classic black and white heritage bungalow at Scotts Road, near the Orchard Road shopping belt.
Since opening its doors in April 2006, the restaurant has received many awards and accolades, with the most recent being a one Michelin star rating from the inaugural Singapore Michelin Guide 2016.
The executive chef of The Song of India, Chef Manjunath Mural hails from a family of doctors, but broke away from the family tradition to pursue his love for cooking, achieving great success in his culinary pursuits.
These were the dishes sampled:
Sarson Cod Tikka
– Chargrilled black cod marinated with mustard oil, coriander and tamarind
Tandoori Chicken
Bengal Prawn
– Tiger prawns in onion mustard salsa and hand-pounded spices
Flambe Leg of Lamb
– Flambeed, slow-cooked leg of lamb served with afghani-spiced sauce
Subz Mele Jule Kofta

The Indian cuisine is rich in flavour with the expert use of various spices, and the dishes at The Song of India are among the very best you’ll get to savour in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
I enjoyed all the mains and starters and lapped everything up to the last morsel. My only holdouts were the desserts because I generally find Indian desserts too sweet for my personal liking.
The flambeed leg was absolutely fantastic and likely the best I have tasted so far. The meat was cooked till it was soft and succulent, yet a little tangy on the bite. There is no gamey taste as it is with most lamb dishes, but instead, the mutton aroma was integrated nicely with the spices used.
The tandoori chicken and the opening cod dish were equally memorable, each leaving a lasting impression on my palate for their distinct flavours.
Even the humble naans, complementing the mains, were outstanding at The Song of India. The mushroom truffle naan was an interesting fusion of east and west while the saffron and sesame naan gives a taste of luxurious Indian dining.
The Song of India is a must-visit for those who love Indian food.
Prices are on the mid to high end, hence the Standard Chartered Dining Journeys privileges will come in handy when dining here.
