This is why you DON’T want the new Jetblack iPhone 7

I have to admit, the Jet Black version of the new iPhone 7 is incredibly sexy.

But no, it isn’t something you should really buy.

Buried deep down in Apple’s website is a small, seemingly inconspicuous footnote about the Jet black finish, which states:

The high-gloss finish of the jet black iPhone 7 is achieved through a precision nine-step anodisation and polishing process. Its surface is equally as hard as other anodised Apple products; however, its high shine may show fine micro-abrasions with use. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use one of the many cases available to protect your iPhone.

Well, I don’t know about you, but asking me to put a case over the phone to protect that sexy finish is the same as not having that finish at all. Once you put a case over it, you won’t get to see the finish. So what’s the point?

Even my iPad Pro 9.7 rose gold holds up extremely well when I use it without any back cover.

If you think this concern isn’t real, apparently TheVerge had already spotted very visible scratches on the sets that Apple put up for guests to try after the event last night. That is, I believe, barely less than an hour of putting the latest phone in front of eager and careful press audiences.

I’ve zoomed in for you here:

Scratch-gate, anyone?
