When I first saw the announcement of a hair dryer from Dyson and at a whopping S$599, I was like WHAT?? Who the hell pays more than $500 for a hair dryer?? A professional salon grade one will probably be about $300 max. And 99.9% of ladies who use hair dryer at home probably get one that’s within the hundred range. But the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is engineered to be THE hair dryer that changes the way we dry our hair.
Our first experience with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer was at their pop-up salon where they showcased the research, prototypes, engineering and the making of Dyson’s first hair dryer. It was impressive. It really impresses with the size to performance ratio.
This is Caren before the dyson supersonic experience
In this post, I’m not going to go into the detail of the £50 million (approx S$89 million) development and the tech behind the Dyson Supersonic. You can read about these tech and features here. What I’ll do is to give you a user experience review of the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.
Unique and User Friendly Design
Who would have thought a hairdryer can look like this? It’s so much smaller than a typical salon grade hair dryer and it is designed for the user. Easy to reach buttons to change the speed and heat – just press with your thumb, you don’t even need to bring it down to switch and control.
High pitch and less noise
I’m sure you’ve tried conversing with your stylist at the salon and will most likely stop chatting the moment the hair dryer is turned on. It’s impossible to hear anything with that noisy machine hovering around your head. With the Dyson Supersonic, because it is engineered to go higher in pitch, it is less noisy for the human’s hearing. We could still talk normally when drying hair in highest speed at the pop-up salon session.
Dries hair faster and better
The heat control in the Dyson Supersonic is on-point. It dries hair faster, more evenly and the dried hair even felt smoother to touch. It was quite amazing I would say. The hair dryer I have at home usually end up giving me a fizzy finish and I’ll have to smoothen the fizz with lotion. But with the Dyson Supersonic, it was straighter and smoother.
Less tiring and more styling
Because of its lighter weight and balanced overall design, your hands and arms are less stressed when you blow dry your hair. And because it helps dry your wet hair faster, you’ll have more time to properly style it with your brush and the Dyson smoothing nozzel. Love how the different attachments attached and detached easily with the magnetic catch design.
Safe and Doesn’t Suck
If you’ve ever gotten your hair sucked or stuck in your hair dryer because you accidentally moved it too close to your head while drying, you’ll know the pain and frustration. But with this Dyson hair dryer you can use it as close as you want to, even if you were to turn it around and have the back face your hair up close, your hair will never get entangled in it.
Or perhaps you might have accidentally touched the tip of your hair dryer after you dried your hair and got burnt by it. With the Dyson Supersonic, this will never happen. With heat shield technology, the surfaces of the attachments and the hair dryer unit is cool to touch. No more burnt ears too!
Is it worth the money?
If you blow dry your hair on a daily basis and love to style your hair a lot with the hair dryer, this is one worth investing. It’s about the same price as 2 or 3 hair treatment sessions for ladies with long hair. You probably may be able to skip those treatment sessions if you use the Dyson Supersonic to dry and style your hair at home instead of the usual hair dryer. Just because this hair dryer is engineered to prevent extreme heat damage to protect natural shine in your hair. Lesser daily damaged equals to healthier hair right? Healthier hair means lesser need to get it treated at the salon! Can DIY and save on time and money in the long run.
The Dyson Supersonic is selling at retail price of S$599, and will be available at major departmental stores and electrical multiples from 5 August 2016.
