17 Singapore hawkers make the 2016 Michelin Guide

Don’t say we didn’t warn you: Over the next few days, weeks and possibly months, these eateries are probably going to be mobbed by list-loving Singaporeans. A total of 34 Singapore eateries – 17 of them in humble food centres – have received a Bib Gourmand rating from Michelin inspectors and will go into the 2016 Michelin Guide, to be launched on July 21.

The Bib Gourmand distinction is awarded to quality eateries which offer affordably priced meals under S$45.

The Singapore Bib Gourmand awardees this year represent over 19 cuisine types, including Indian, Cantonese, Vietnamese and even Turkish food, testament to the rich diversity of Singapore’s culinary landscape, says Michael Ellis, the International Director of the Michelin Guides.

You’ll find familiar favourites such as Tiong Bahru Hainanese Chicken Rice in Tiong Bahru Market, Kok Sen sze char in Keong Saik Road, Wedang Indonesian satay in Golden Mile Complex and Bismillah Biryani on Dunlop Street, and also newer names such as three-year-old A Noodle Story.

Here’s the list.
