Things To Do In Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas

With a total of 18 decks, the Ovation of the Seas by Royal Caribbean made debut on April 2016. This is the 24th ship added to Royal Caribbean’s global cruise fleet. Built at Meyer Werft in Germany, this is the largest and technologically most advanced ship which took over 18 months to build at a cost of US$1 billion (S$1.37 billion). With over 200 years of building big and modern cruise liners, Meyer Werft also previously constructed the older sister vessels of the Ovation of the Seas, namely the Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas. Both vessels debuted from New York on September 2014 and from Southampton on April 2015 respectively.

Eco-friendliness is what Ovation of the Seas is designed and engineered to be. With it’s highly energy-efficient systems, this Quantum Class mega-liner is a groundbreaking state-of-the-art vessel. Departed from Southampton in April, the Ovation of the Seas is making it’s homeport season to Tianjin China in June 2016.

Out of the 18 decks, 16 are guest decks. The Ovation of the Seas measures 347m in length and 41.4m in width. With a total of 2,090 staterooms, this cruise is able to accommodate up to 4,905 guest in total. This June, the Ovation of the Seas made it’s record of 4,576 guests for this 3-night cruise from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang).

In order to deliver Royal Caribbean’s renowned guest service, the guests are well taken care by 1,500 crews in the Ovation of the Seas. This number of crews is more than the total crew on board 55 Airbus A380 aircraft combined.

Enjoy The First At The Sea Activities: North Star, Ripcord By iFly and Bionic Bar

There are three sea activities which makes your cruise holiday in Ovation of the Seas a unique experience. The North Star capsule is one of the most anticipated features for this Quantum Class vessel. Ascending over 300 feet above sea level, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye views of the ocean and port for 15 minutes per ride. Each capsule ride can accommodate a capacity of 14 passengers and 1 staff.

If you want to experience the thrill of skydiving, RipCord by iFly is a must to go activity on this ship. Equipped with a 23-foot tall indoor vertical wind tunnel, each participant will float several feet in the air above four powerful fans. Before the iFly experience begins, every participants are expected to watch an instructional video and attend a short course on flight positions and hand signals. After the safety and flight briefing are completed, every participants are required to put on their jumpsuit, goggle, helmet and earplugs. It is a must to put on your socks before wearing the jumpsuit. Each skydiving experience will take about 1 minute. As this is a complimentary activity, it is recommended to make reservations early either at RipCord by iFly or online to avoid disappointment.

Probably the most talked about activity is the first true robotic bar called Bionic Bar powered by Makr Shakr. Built with precise sensors, these robotic arms work in perfect synchronisation to prepare all the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Since this is a “robot bar” in a hi-tech cruise, placing an order is easy using the supplied tablets. Simply make payments using your room’s RFID card and witness the two bionic mixologists preparing and shaking up your drinks.

Three Places You Don’t Want To Missed Out: FlowRider, SeaPlex And Two70

While RipCord by iFly offers a skydiving experience, the FlowRider offers a big outdoor surfing experience. Using either a boogie board or surfboard, each participant is accompanied by an instructor during each water activity. Lasting about 5 minutes, each participant will be tasked to do simple stunts under close supervision. The FlowRider is complimentary and requires pre-registration.

If you love bumper cars, soccer or roller skating, you will want to check out the SeaPlex. This is Royal Caribbean’s largest indoor activity at sea which offers non-stop programmes of fun and games. In order to make sure you do not missed out your favourite activities in the SeaPlex, do check out the daily schedule so that you can plan ahead for the day.

The Two70, which I often hang out in the afternoon for a cup of coffee and delicious light bites, is a S$18.5 million hi-tech entertainment venue located at Deck 5 and 6. During the day, Two70 is a bar and cafe with an enormous 270-degree window to enjoy the panoramic sea view.

During the night, Two70 turns into a stage for spectacular performances. Do take note of the 6 large robotic screens which are suspended above the stage. These large screens are programmed to move independently, or together, to create the digital visual effect for the audiences. The most memorable performance for me was the Spectra’s Cabaret, where everything comes together in harmony: music, dancers, acrobats and robots.

There are many other amenities that guests can enjoy throughout their cruise holiday, such as rock climbing, meet the casts of Dreamworks, working out in the fitness center, catching live band performances in the Music Hall and of course, the swimming pools.

Experience Tantalizing Treats In The Ovation of the Seas

Ovation of the Seas offers 18 restaurants with cuisines from all around the world. There are five complimentary main restaurants which offers Mediterranean influences (Coastal Kitchen), Asian flavours (Silk), mouthwatering American delights (American Icon Grill), contemporary cuisines (Chic) and timeless classics (The Grande Restaurant). There is also a huge main buffet restaurant, which is complimentary, called Windjammer Marketplace. This buffet restaurant offers a great variety of Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. Another complimentary buffet restaurant, which is smaller compared to Windjammer Marketplace, is the Solarium Bistro. Both Windjammer and Solarium Bistro are located at Deck 14.

Also in Ovation of the Seas, you will be surprise to find Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s Italian restaurant and Starbucks on this cruise. If you wish to experience another dimension of dining, check out the imaginative cuisine by Wonderland, where the food menu doesn’t make any sense at all. The above dining areas are not complimentary.

Wifi access is available at US$12.99 per day. For faster wifi access where you can stream your favourite movies, music and good quality video call, the price is starting at US$17.99 per day. The Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas is an enormously huge smart vessel. From the changing of metal plates to display what day is it in all 16 guest elevators to stunning performances between artists and robots, every single details planned out everyday are sincere and thoughtful. Internally, this cruise is design to be wheelchair and elderly friendly, while the programmes planned out daily are family-oriented. With all those non-stop fun activities on this mega cruise liner, definitely the guests will enjoy themselves and don’t feel like going back home.
