2016’s top emerging travel destinations – how many have you visited?

Travellers in Singapore are increasingly interested in exploring our own backyard, with Asian destinations growing in popularity over the past three years.

According to travel search engine Skyscanner, the following 10 destinations have seen greatest increase in flight searches from 2012-15:

  1. Phu Quoc, Vietnam (209%)
  2. Paro, Bhutan (147%)
  3. Kalibo, Philippines (66%)
  4. Reykjavik, Iceland (57%)
  5. Shenyang, China (55%)
  6. Sapporo, Japan (46%)
  7. Nagoya, Japan (38%)
  8. Osaka, Japan (30%)
  9. Hobart, Australia (30%)
  10. Tokyo, Japan (28%)

How many of these destinations have you visited? I counted five for myself. I find the list very achievable in terms of cost, with the exception of Iceland and Bhutan.

Four cities in Japan made the list. This is not a surprise, given the recent fall in yen against Singapore dollar, making travels to Japan so much cheaper than before.

What do you think of this list? Does it accurately reflect where you might want to visit in 2016?
