Hands-on woodwork experience with Home-Fix at myVillage

It was a hands-on, fun and dusty Saturday morning for me last week where I created my very first DIY mobile phone holder out of wood. Always wanted to attend some crafting or makers session and this was the perfect opportunity for me – a woodwork experience with XPC by Home-fix.

XPC welcomes makers, tinkerers, hackers and inventors who seek a deeper interest on enriching their skill sets and introducing innovation in Craft, Design & Technology. Let’s together build a platform for the community to engage and discuss new ideas towards designing and making products made in Singapore.

My tools and gadgets for the day. I was super excited when I saw this. Reminded me of my secondary D&T days!

With our homes getting smaller and smaller, we have no space to do any DIY projects or hack our own IKEA home pieces. Now we can do that at XPC, they provide the space and tools for all your D.I.Y. needs, making D.I.Y. fun and affordable for everyone. They welcome both beginners and enthusiasts to learn and share with the community to grow the maker culture here in Singapore. Providing a reasonable selection of raw materials for your needs, along with basic tools and machines that you can use for your projects. It’s like having access to a technical workshop for your fun home improvement project! They will also be briefing beginner participants  regarding which tools are used for specific tasks and give out basic guides to using them properly and safely. If anyone is interested in pursuing the skill for business purposes, BestofTools is the best place to get information on many different DIY tools to get.

Instructor of the day from XPC by Home-Fix showing us how to operate the hand-drill. Looking quite swag in this shot right?
The right way to hold the drill when making holes into plywood.

There were three instructors from XPC at the woodwork workshop that morning. All of them were very helpful and friendly. And I must say they are very patient too. Everyone there were beginners and they provided lots of help and guidance throughout the session.

My work spot after lots of drilling, sawing, sanding and hammering. It was an awesome Saturday morning! Very therapeutic I must say.

After 2 hours of learning, making and finger numbing sanding, I completed my wooden mobile phone holder! Looks not bad right?

And my finished product! A mobile phone holder and it held a 5.5inch ASUS Zenfone Selfie very well without falling it. Nice work Claudia! LOL!
