Salmon yusheng is already too mainstream. As such, Singapore’s homegrown thai restaurant chain, ThaiExpress, launched a Thai-style Soft Shell Crab Lo Hei (S$22.80) to differentiate.
Tapping on their popular “Poo Phat Pong Kan” dish, which means Rice with Soft Shell Crab, Egg and Onion Curry, this special lo hei dish will be available at all ThaiExpress outlets from 1 Feb to 4 Mar, the 15th day of the lunar new year.
I went to try it out with my migme audience team colleagues:
The dish was pretty yummy as all the ingredients are freshly prepared. The soft shell crab was a delight and the crispy bites go well with the shredded veggies. My only slight complain is that the crabs came intact in whole pieces and were not exactly suited for tossing.
The lo hei ingredients include two soft shell crabs, shredded red and green capsicums, white radish, carrots, cucumber, peanuts, sesame seeds, rice crackers, lime and green mango. It is drizzled with mango sauce made with fish sauce and palm sugar. The dish is good for 2 to 4 people.
For every order of the lo hei, you also get a twin pack of ThaiExpress’s red packets.
Go try this if you are looking for a different lo hei experience this year! I find it especially convenient for a small group lo hei. 🙂
