Earlier last month in September, Coca-Cola surprised the world with the touching video “The Happiest Thank You”. On a daily basis, there are people who make our lives happier. Be it the bus driver who stopped and waited for you as you ran to catch the bus to work; the neighbour who held the lift for you while you struggle with your shopping bags or the cashier at the supermarket who reminded you of your wallet which you absent-minded left in the trolley.
Never does a day go by that we don’t thank them, yet we don’t even know their name. Coca-Cola believes it is time we should know these people better.
The video documented the genuine reactions of people who are usually called by generic addresses like “Ate”, “Kuya”, “Totoy” and “Boss” in the Philippines. With the help of Coca-Cola, these folks were treated with an unexpected token of gratitude. Watch their reactions yourself:
Among the thank receivers in the video are Ivan Craig, a supermarket bagger boy; Marivic, a parking attendant; Ronilo, a driver; and Artemio, a guard at a condominium. Each have touched others in their own ways and each have different stories to share.
The video showed how a simple gesture like thanking strangers by their real names can light up the day for others. Sometimes, it is the smallest things that matter.
The campaign hopes to inspire each and every one of us to start showing our appreciations in more personal ways. Be it with our colleagues, friends and strangers, we should just simply smile and thank them by their names. After all, the thank you which makes people the happiest are the personalised ones.
