The Mid-Autumn Festival is just round the corner. Have you bought any mooncakes yet? If you are hunting for exquisitely packaged, quality mooncakes as gifts, why not consider SUCRE?
Together with fashion concept store, Made by Lauren Jasmine, online gourmet food store, SUCRE, has launched a limited edition ART BOX mooncake gift set.
The mooncakes come packed in a box featuring playful gemetrical shapes and bold colours. The design for the ART BOX draws inspirations from the paint palette of an artist – a universal signifier of art.
“When a customer purchases a SUCRE mooncake set with its palette of shapes and hues, he or she also comes into ownership of a deeply valued ART BOX,” explains Lucy Pek, founder of Sucre, whose unique Lunar New Year creations were featured earlier this year by Package Design Magazine in the US.
Design studio KNACK was commissioned by SUCRE to create ART BOX, which is available in 1,000 limited edition keepsake sets this year. Set in bold pink, the ART BOX has a luxurious gold foil filigree on the top right hand border, adding significant visual weight to the box and communicating its premium quality. Each ART BOX is accompanied by a luxury paper bag in matt-black, topped off with a gold foil finishing.
SUCRE’s mooncake flavours include White Lotus Seed Paste with Macadamia Nuts, White Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk, and others. The highlight is a traditional favourite with a twist – the White Lotus Seed Paste with Melon Seeds and Dried Cherries. SUCRE’s Chef Patissier has incorporated dried cherries in the mooncake, with the tartness of the dried cherries perfectly tempering the sweetness of the white lotus seed paste.
I like these mooncakes. The white lotus paste is not too sweet or too oily. The melon seeds + dried cherries flavour took me by surprise because the combination is unexpectedly harmonious. The mellow, 甘甜 taste and chewy texture of the dried cherries are a great foil to the cloying white lotus paste. Melon seeds add nice crunch too. This is their signature flavour for 2014 and I don’t wonder why. Highly recommended. Strangely, white lotus paste with macadamia nuts was a tad sweet for my liking. The single egg yolk was crumbly, salty and savoury. It was smack in the middle of the mooncake so everyone got their share of yolk.
Lovely with a hot cup of black Chinese tea.
