Earlier in November, Malaysia’s premier lifestyle property developer Eastern & Oriental (E&O) launched its Andaman Edition 18 East seafront condominiums at Seri Tanjung Pinang in Penang.
Seri Tanjung Pinang is the most expensive residential area in Penang and is the local equivalent of Sentosa Cove in Singapore for luxe seaside residential.
You might have heard of E&O from the colonial-style Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang. The hotel was established in 1885 by the Sarkies Brothers, the same brothers who went on to establish Raffles Hotel in Singapore 1887. The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is still in business today and is known for its luxurious accommodation and restaurants.
I was invited for a luncheon with their sales and marketing representatives in Singapore to learn more about this new project.
Touted to be the finest condominiums on the island, the Edition 18 East series draws its name from the figures extracted from the geographical coordinates that place it at the heart of E&O’s flagship property, Seri Tanjung Pinang.
“The Andaman Edition 18 East provides residents a sweeping vista of the Andaman Sea, the Penang city skyline, the surrounding hills or the waterpark, making it stand out as the best in its class.” Said E&O Head of Sales and Marketing for Penang, Christina Lau.
Potential buyers of Andaman Edition 18 East will have the opportunity to view and assess the fully completed common facilities and recreation areas of the development which includes a 4.5 acre world-class waterpark and 6.9 acres of green space, which are designed to provide residents of all ages the best of seafront resort living.
“Potential owners of Andaman Edition 18 East can come and see for themselves the spectacular completed private waterpark that is the size of four football fields. With waterfalls, a beach pool, adventure pool, spa pool and jacuzzi, this waterpark is a distinctive feature that is rarely found in other condominium projects.” Added Christina.
Christina shared that other completed residents’ facilities included a world-class clubhouse equipped with a lounge, function spaces, gymnasium, outdoor dining terrace, a private gold class theaterette, a fully functional kitchen, study corner and changing room with lockers.
“In addition to the waterpark, Andaman’s parks and recreational green area cover nearly 60% of the overall development,” Christina added. Spread across the development are a tennis court, a multi-purpose court, 1.4 km of jogging and cycling tracks dedicated for residents’ use.
Andaman Edition 18 East is situated on 21-acres of sprawling landscaped gardens on Penang’s upscale development of Seri Tanjung Pinang. Staying true to Andaman’s seafront lifestyle offering, Christina said residents are accorded priority to use the berth services at neighbouring Straits Quay Marina at reasonable rates.
The luxurious Andaman sea-facing condominiums boasts eight well-appointed layouts ranging from expansive penthouse suites with tension-edged lap pools merging with the horizon, to spacious 3-bedroom suites for larger families, to chic 1-bedroom units.
Units range from a spacious 877 square feet (sq ft) for a 1-bedroom studio suite, priced from RM1.387 million (just ~S$540,000, the price of a 4/5-room flat in Singapore), to the expansive 4,813 sq ft penthouses. There are also 1+1, 2- and 3-bedroom suites at 1,180 sq ft, 2,036 sq ft and 2,770 sq ft respectively. Stylish fittings and quality finishes with top range appliances that include a wine chiller and dish washer add an elegant functional touch to each expansive living space.
I have not visited the development, but on paper, it does seem pretty impressive. The charm of Penang island probably adds to the appeal for potential buyers. With a shared colonial heritage like Singapore, but still maintaining much of its old town charm, Penang will hold a special place for Singaporeans who grew up when Malaysia and Singapore were one country.
If you dream of living on a peaceful tropical island where it is warm and sunny all year round, a city known for its world famous food and well-preserved rich heritage, a place where the economy is thriving yet the cost of living is affordable, the island of Penang is the place where you can find all these and more. Sounds like a culturally richer and less hectic version of Singapore doesn’t it? Sick of the heavy overcrowding in Singapore? Maybe Penang is the place to escape to for retirement…
Expounding further on why Andaman is a sound investment, Christina said “E&O as the developer has a proven track record for delivering innovative concepts and high standards of quality. We are listed on the Main Board of the Malaysian stock exchange and have built a reputation as a premier lifestyle property developer with signature projects in the most exclusive locations of Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor—the major property destinations in the country.”
As a lifestyle property developer, E&O is supported by a set of complementary lifestyle pillars that include hospitality, F&B, retail, performing arts and marina operations. A strong proponent for the preservation of heritage, E&O owns the legendary 127-year old Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang as well as the boutique Lone Pine Hotel at Batu Ferringhi. It also owns the Straits Quay retail enclave and marina, located next to Andaman, which allows residents to enjoy the best of living by-the-sea.
“When people buy an E&O property they acquire a complete lifestyle package. Supported by the comprehensive lifestyle offerings of our Group, we are well-positioned to fulfil this promise.
“We are confident that the outstanding proposition of Andaman with its excellent seafront location, well-appointed units and world-class facilities backed by E&O’s proven track record will appeal strongly to discerning buyers,” said Christina.
Eastern & Oriental Berhad, collectively referred to as ‘The E&O Group’ or ‘E&O’ is listed on the Main-Board of Bursa Malaysia. Its reputation as a premier lifestyle property developer with a proven track record for delivering innovative concepts and high standards of quality, is built across a series of exclusive addresses in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Penang Island.
The Group’s past signature projects include the high-end Dua Residency Condominium in the KL city centre and Idamansara and Seventy Damansara exclusive landed homes in upscale Damansara Heights. E&O’s newest completed development in the heart of KL, St Mary Residences, is styled after Manhattan’s iconic loft apartments and represents the latest in urbane and elegant city living. On Penang Island, E&O’s masterplanned seafront development Seri Tanjung Pinang is one of the most sought-after residential addresses on the island, especially with its latest launch, the Quayside and Andaman seafront resort condominiums. The neighbouring Straits Quay festive retail marina brings to life the holistic concept of living by-the-sea for residents of Seri Tanjung Pinang.
In Johor, E&O has embarked on a new joint-venture project with the wholly-owned subsidiaries of Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited to develop the 210-acre Avira wellness-themed development in Medini, Iskandar Malaysia.
E&O’s core of property development is supported by a cachet of complementary lifestyle elements. In the hotel space, E&O is known for its iconic heritage hotels such as the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in George Town, Penang and the Lone Pine Hotel, the first beach front hotel on Penang’s famed BatuFerringhi tourist strip. E&O Residences Kuala Lumpur in the city’s Golden Triangle represents E&O’s extension of its hospitality expertise into the management of serviced residences. E&O’s business in the lifestyle F&B space is represented via its 100% ownership of The Delicious Group, comprising 10 restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore. These elements as well as the Performing Arts Centre of Penang and Straits Quay Convention Centre reinforce E&O’s position as a true lifestyle property development Group.
