DBS Marina Regatta 2013 – Bay Festival Finale

Spanning two weekends on 18, 19, 24 and 25 May, the DBS Marina Regatta is Singapore’s biggest water sports festival, taking place in the waters of Marina Bay against the backdrop of Singapore’s new financial centre.

Entrance to the DBS Marina Regatta

This is the second year DBS Bank is running this annual event, with the objective of spurring the development of dragon boating, a uniquely Asian sport, in Singapore and to broaden its spectator appeal.

Following the sucess of the inaugural event last year, DBS Marina Regatta 2013 was expanded to include a Bay Festival on the second weekend following the races, allowing members of the public to have a chance to paddle, canoe, kayak and sail in the Marina Bay waters and be entertained by popular local bands.

Experience Marina Bay with DBS

I was unable to attend the race events on the first weekend due to my reservist duties. Nonetheless, I managed to attend the last day of the Bay Festival on 25 May (last Saturday).

Here are some pictures I took on Saturday:

Free water sports fun for everyone

DBS believes that the future of business is to be a force for good; championing social entrepreneurship across the region is the centrepiece of DBS’ corporate social responsibility efforts. Hence other than water sports activities, the Bay Festival also showcased close to 30 social enterprises, offering them a platform to share their causes and promote their products and services at the DBS Marina Regatta.

I had fun getting to know some of these social enterprises and saw many others enjoying themselves too at various social enterprises booths:

Various social entrepreneurs, interacting with the public
The Hub – a home for people who want to use entrepreneurial ideas to create sustainable impact
Circus in Motion – roving circus acts and workshops for the public, working with youths at risk
Balloon sculptor at work
Free balloon sculptures for kids
Plate spinning
Circus fun
For all ages, young and old alike
Costume magician
iDeaf – onsite deaf caricature artists
Bamboobee booth, promoting bamboo bikes
