Tims Restaurant & Cafe @ Toa Payoh

Restaurant interior

Tims Restaurant & Cafe serves  a mix of Nepalese, Chinese and western cuisines, plays western oldies songs like Stevie Wonder’s I Just Called to Say I Love You, touts imported China beer and has staff of a few different nationalities.

Truly and uniquely Singapore for its multicultural, multiethnic presentation!

The restaurant is just a few minutes walk from our office at Toa Payoh North and Rachel and I decided to try it out one night.

Tim’s is named after the owner’s son. A Nepali guy who has lived the dream: starting out in Singapore 15 years ago working in other restaurants until he built up enough savings and experience to open a place of his own – via Missbossy on Hungrygowhere.com.

The restaurant’s decor is a little tacky and cheesy. Rachel and I had our reservations about the food when we first sat down. Our first impression was of bewilderment at the strange mix of cuisines, staff and decor. We really didn’t know what to expect.

I ordered a chicken chop western dish while Rachel tried a Nepalese noodle dish. We also ordered some momos (Nepalese dumplings) to share and opted for the set meal of an additional soup and hot drink. There is no extra charge for plain water.

Mushroom soup and garlic bread
Chicken chop with mashed potato and greens
Thukpa with sausages
Momos!
A cup of milo and a self-made slice of banana cake each

The bill came to just around $30. Really reasonable! Best of all, the food was pretty good!  There are not many eateries or restaurants in Singapore that sells Nepalese food. Tims is a great place to try it as they also offer a mix of western cuisines.

With such close proximity to our office, Rachel and I are likely to visit Tims again for sure. 🙂

Here’s the restaurant’s details if you are interested to visit:
