[Sydney, New South Wales Escapade with HTC EVO 3D] – Golden Century Seafood Restaurant (金唐海鲜酒家) at Chinatown

On the fifth night of my Sydney escapade with HTC EVO 3D, hosted by Destination New South Wales, Eunice, Duglass and I had our dinner at Golden Century Seafood Restaurant (金唐海鲜酒家) in Chinatown.

This was my last dinner in Sydney for this trip. I find it a pretty alternative experience  eating authentic Chinese cuisine in a western country.

Golden Century is an institution in Sydney, being one of the oldest and most famous Chinese restaurant around. It’s not hard to figure out why when one steps in. The decor still reminisces old school Chinese restaurants of the 70s and 80s in Singapore.

This Chinese restaurant is in Sydney, not Singapore
The menu
The interior is that of a very typical Chinese restaurant

Eunice and I found the prices surprisingly reasonable, given the unfavourable exchange rate for Singapore dollars against Australian dollars. A meal at Golden Century would cost about the same as what it would cost to dine at an equivalent Chinese restaurant in Singapore.

We ordered mostly seafood items like codfish, scallops and prawns. Eunice and I enjoyed our dinner very much, having not touch any Chinese food for the past few days.

Our orders for 3 pax
Our guide, Duglass is better with her chopstick skills than me
Beef briskets
Fresh steamed prawns with a healthy dose of garlic
Delicious cod fish with veggies
Large, succulent scallops stirred fried with asparagus
Braised tofu
Lala clams – these are called “pi pi” in Australia

If you are searching for a good seafood place in Sydney, do visit Golden Century. As a discerning Chinese diner, I can assure you of the authenticity of their Chinese cuisine. This is definitely not one of those gimmicky “Chinese” restaurant touting alien items like “Chop Suey Delight” to westerners. 🙂
