1 Caramel @ Rochester Park

1 Caramel @ Rochester Park

I am not a big dessert person, but I find myself enjoying everything I was served at 1 Caramel during a food sampling session with a group of omy.sg bloggers for their brunch and dessert selections.

Credits go to food blogger, Justin Pereira for the detailed descriptions of each of the dishes, which I got off his blog post on  1 Caramel. You can read the blog entries written by the other bloggers who attended the sampling session to get a variety of views.

We started with the Traditional Eggs Benedict with Smoke Salmon ($14). I like my egg runny and enjoys how the yolk burst into colour when one splice open the egg.

We moved on a whole series of desserts thereafter, starting with The Posh Platter ($22). This includes fingers portion of French brie with truffle oil and cherry tomatoes of a toasted brioche; asparagus wrapped in prosciutto; and smoked salmon tarts with creme fraiche and ocean trout caviar. All are delightful to look at and flavourful to savour.

Next up was a special serving of freshly made Raspberry Chocolate Lollipop. The ladies went all ga-ga when they saw this beautiful little thing served in a poise, mini tray.

This was followed by the 1-Caramel Assiette (5 desserts for $24, perfect for sharing) which invited even more “oohs” and “aahs” from the ladies, captivated by the loveliness and delicacy of the desserts.

You know you are dining with bloggers when the first thing they do is to snap photos when the food arrives!

The items we tried included:

Tropical Vodka Trifle, a creation of Pineapple Gazpacho Jelly, Pineapple sponge cubes with crystallized baked almonds topped with coconut sorbet.

1 Caramel Baked Alaska
This looks really messy, but it was delicious!

1-Caramel Baked Alaska, a combination of homemade chunky strawberry and vanilla Madagascar ice cream coated with rhum Italian meringue on top of a nutty chocolate brownie.

Earl Grey Creme Brulee

Earl Grey Creme Brulee, an infusion of earl grey tea leaves in a traditional French baked custard dessert served with grissini cheese straws dusted with tea and icing powder.

Raspberry Lychee Rose Pannacotta, Lychee Lemon Compote, a combination of two exquisite puree scented with the essence of rose in a classic Italian cold pudding served with chunky lychee and lemon compote.

Death by Chocolate

Death by Chocolate by no means suggests that one would perish after eating it. But its pure chocolately goodness that extends from the Varlhona Sofiato molten cake to the dark chocolate sorbet, and bits of different pieces laid behind.

Midori Macaron, 1-Caramel’s signature green tea macaron filled with tonka bean compote and Japanese Yuzu ice cream.

A chocolate lover, without question, my votes goes to Death by Chocolate as the favourite item on the platter.

Everyone enjoying their food

To round up the evening, two fluffy Souffles were served:

Miso Souffle with Yuzu Ice Cream ($14)
Passionfruit Souffle with Banana Passion Sorbet ($14)

The Souffles were really lovely. I like the Asian infusion into this classic French dessert. I will be back for this with Rachel.

The day ended with some group photo taking. Good food, new friends, a cosy ambient what more can one ask for in an evening date? 🙂
