Gim Tim Restaurant (锦珍冷气酒楼) is an established household brand among older Singaporeans. The restaurant tucked away in heartland Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 has been around since 1989.
Recently, Gim Tim has opened up two more restaurants and the first Ang Mo Kio restaurant has also been upgraded.
I dined at the Ang Mo Kio restaurant last Saturday night with a whole bunch of my relatives. It was my grandmother’s birthday and we all gathered for the night.
The presentation of the dishes were quite nice, but that’s about it. Food was average. There are too many fried or doughy items for my liking. Ngor Hiang seems to served with every dish. Even if it’s their signature item, too much of a good stuff can become quite a turn-off. I had high expectation, but left disappointed.
The service was good, but rather slow. It took us almost three hours to go through a ten course meal.
I don’t think I am likely to visit again, unless invited. The dining experience was pleasant overall, but it wasn’t exceptional.
