“O, Cheaper Better Faster” music video – Spoof or Tribute to Labour Chief?

[youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/v/sZRhJOjNiyM&hl=en&fs=1&”]

Via mrbrown. This video is made by the Food Drinks And Allied Workers’ Union, an union that is listed by the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC).

Our Labour Minister, Lim Swee Say, commented recently on how Singaporeans workers need to become “cheaper, better, faster” to compete in the global economy. A few months earlier, he also coined the term “upturn the downturn” to encourage Singaporeans to think positively amidst the recession.

Both these catch-phrases were used in the lyrics for this song. I don’t know if it’s just me…. somehow, the cheesy lines, the woody, forced expression on some of the talents featured in the video made it look more like a spoof than a tribute. Do anyone else feel the same?

Here’s a few of the best moments in the video which I had screen-captured:

Catch-phrase of the year
An acronym: tell-tale sign someone in the civil service could have penned the lyrics
Do these people all look like they are doing this willingly?
