Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin @ ION Orchard

Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin

As mentioned in my previous blog post, Rachel and I headed down to ION Orchard on the first day of the soft opening on Tuesday to check out the place. We also had our dinner there.

We chose a Japanese restaurant called Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin as we noticed the head chef and founder from Japan was in the restaurant. We later found out from the friendly man that he will be staying till the end of this week. Hence if you want to try out good quality Tonkatsu (pork cutlet), go there before the end of this week. 🙂

When we got in, the restaurant’s signature pork dishes were already off the menu. We had no choice but to order the chicken counterparts.

The staff were polite, but a few of them can barely speak English and it was quite painful communicating with them. The total bill for two person came to about S$25+. It’s not really cheap and the strange thing is, they only accept cash – no NETS or credit card (unless I misunderstood the cashier’s minimal command of English). Remember to carry enough cash in your wallet when dining there.

The food was great though. The miso soup actually had visible slivers of pork, carrot, radish and konnyaku jelly in it. The chicken cutlet and chicken karaage we ordered were fresh, crispy and fried just right. I will return there again to try their Tonkatsu.
