The Sniper (神鎗手) Singapore Gala Premiere

I attended the gala premiere for The Sniper (神鎗手) tonight, together with Leon, Wan Churn and Rachel. My colleague, Carol Liew should have joined us too, but she forgotten about it and was still at home when I finally managed to get her on her mobile at 8.45pm (the movie starts at 9.15pm).

Security was really tight because the king of sex videos and photos, Edison Chen (陳冠希) is one of the lead actors and he came down to the gala to promote the movie. According to various news reports, there were death threats issued to Edison Chen by underworld figures and the added security were really for just this dude.

The director, Dante Lam (林超贤) and another lead actor, Richie Ren (任贤齐) were also here to attend the gala. However, all attention seems to be focused on Edison Chen solely. Look at the number of photographers and journalists (not to mention members of the public) trying to get up close with Edison Chen. It’s crazy man. Everywhere this guy goes, a whole hound of people follows.

Comparatively, when Dante Lam and Richie Ren made their appearances, the crowd was more subdued. Once Edison was spotted walking towards the stage area, the crowd immediately went wild. Three teenage girls in front of me were screaming their heads off and leaped onto to their poor boyfriends’ shoulders to get a better look at their idol.

Other than the fans, there were also some who went there to make cheeky jabs at Edison Chen. When Edison Chen walked passed, a Beng-ish guy besides me shouted out in Cantonese, “Edison, lei hou leng zai ah! wu mo video share share!” (Edison, you are a pretty boy! Do you have videos to share?)

I didn’t manage to get a good shot of the stars at the stage area as it was really too crowded, but once into the movie theatre, I was able to get quite up close when the movie director, together with the two actors came out to give an introduction to the movie.

Edison Chen seems very fidgety throughout the short interview. I wonder if he was nervous or it was just his nature. Anyway, enough about Edison Chen… the focus should really be the movie isn’t it? 🙂

Well, the movie was entertaining to watch, but not particularly memorable. I think teenage girls will enjoy it very much though. Two of the lead actors are really dashing and with chiseled builds. I am referring to Edison Chen and China actor, Huang Xiaoming (黄晓明).

The action portions of the movie were great, but the storyline is a tat weak with too many narratives going on and jarring plot loopholes aplenty.
