Yio Chu Kang MP Seng Han Thong (成汉通) hurled with flammable liquid

Yio Chu Kang MP, Mr Seng Han Thong

Some one must really hate Mr Seng Han Thong (成汉通). First, we learn how Mr Seng had been punched in the face by an irate former cabby about two and a half years ago. Now this.

Jialat hor?

I am wondering what drove  the assailant to do something like this. I am no lawyer, but hurling a flammable liquid at a MP is no joke – depending on how the charges are meted out, it can jolly well be construed as an act of terrorism, with indefinite jail term under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

MP Burnt, Sent to SGH
Jan 11, 2009

MR SENG Han Thong, MP for Yio Chu Kang, was taken to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on Sunday afternoon for burn wounds after someone hurled a flammable liquid at him.

The Straits Times understands that someone threw the liquid at Mr Seng, 58, while he was at grassroots event at Yio Chu Kang commmunity club.

Mr Seng was burnt on his face, neck and back.

Another man, said to be the chairman of a temple, was also hurt and has been brought to SGH.

The suspect, believed to be a man, has been arrested.

Mr Seng had been attacked before in July 2006 when he was punched in the face by an irate former cabby.

That incident took place at around 9pm, during a Meet-the-People session held at a PAP Community Foundation kindergarten at Block 644, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. According to a report in Shin Min Daily News, Mr Seng was assaulted by a 74-year-old man who was angry with the MP for not helping him to get his revoked taxi licence reinstated.

After voicing his displeasure, the man was said to have punched Mr Seng once, before he was held back.

Senior Minister of State Sadasivan Balaji is at the hospital to visit Mr Seng.
