Observe this set of photos carefully and you will find it’s very hard to discern whether the pictures are images of mirror images or direct images themselves. Interesting hor? 🙂
They are taken at an art installation at the South Beach Development which is part of the Singapore Biennale 2008. Do go check it out if you have time. The exhibitions run from 11 Sept to 16 Nov 2008.
The installation is simply named as “Hair Salon” and is created by Argentina artist, Leandro Erlich. The installation is devised so that when you look into the mirror on the wall, it appears as if the room is reflected in the mirror, but in fact, there is an identical room that has been created symmetrically behind the mirror. The mirror is used as a trick, a device to surprise people and to pose an interesting question about reality and illusion. It shows us that what one thinks is an illusion is acutally real and that there is only a fine line between them.
