Jumbo Seafood – Props for Service

Commendation feedback written by Rachel for a Jumbo staff 🙂 :

“I had a lovely evening at East Coast Park’s Jumbo restaurant not because of the food, but because of the service rendered by two attentive waitresses.

I would like to highlight in particular Mdm Lee Kui Lan (hope I got her name right), who came to my rescue with aloe vera gel upon noticing that my hand had been scalded by soup.

She and one of her colleagues were especially helpful by handing me clean serviettes and giving advice on treating the burn. She even checked on me again at the end of the meal.

Thanks to her, I could enjoy the rest of my meal, and more importantly, my burn actually recovered by the time I got home. I wish to commend Jumbo’s staff for going the extra mile.”

The above was submitted via Jumbo’s website feedback form.

As I read in recent news reports about growing unemployment rates among the lower income Singaporeans workers, I can’t help but worry for someone like Mdm Lee above (a kindly old auntie who appears local to us). I hope that such good workers are not being replaced by cheaper foreign workers in a bid to cut costs. Good workers should be aptly rewarded. While Singaporeans are quick to complain, we are seldom free-flowing with our compliments.

  • I recently went for dinner in Jumbo, the one in Serangoon. Majority (by that I mean like 99.1%) of the waiters and waitresses were from China. They looked barely legal. I was kinda peeved, even though they were terribly (overly) hardworking and provided good service. But as our dear PM says, they are supposed to be good for us. :
