Some joker on HardwareZone forum went to rewrite the lyrics for the Channel 8 drama serial, 黄金路 (literally translated as “Golden Road“), to reflect on the Singapore government’s ERP policy. How appropriate! Hahahahaha!

Actually, I think the best way to solve traffic congestion is to improve the public transport system. Singapore is such a small country – it only takes at most one hour to drive from one end of the island to the other. There’s really not much incentive to own a car if the public transport system is World Best (we like to be world best in everything right? Why not public transportation? 🙂 ).
A case in point will be going to Orchard Road during weekends. It is faster to get there by MRT than cars because of severe congestion. Hence for a rational person like me, I will choose to take MRT than drive because it saves me time. In this example, there are more incentives to take public transport because it is more economically efficient than driving (in terms of $$$, time and effort).
Having said that, given the crappy services we are still receiving from the SBS and SMRT oligopoly, things are not likely to improve anytime soon.
