What’s 377A?
The Penal Code of Singapore, in Section 377A, provides for a jail sentence for up to two years should a man be found to have committed an act of “gross indecency” with another man.
A website, repeal377A.com has been established to help Singaporeans gather information, debate the issue and act towards change for the good of all Singaporeans regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.
They are rallying for signatures for a Parliamentary Petition and Open Letter to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Visit their website and sign up to show your support. 🙂
The deadlines are near, hence you have to act quick:
Parliamentary Petition: Oct 14
Open Letter To The PM: Oct 19
Here’s a short video produced to support the cause. You won’t get to see it on national television. Hence do help to spread this video around online via blogs, forums and other viral forms.
Oh, and if you need to know – YES, I am sympathetic to the gay community in Singapore. So am I towards other underprivileged or discriminated group. 🙂
