Alvinology’s family reunion dinner (团圆饭) 2010

For our Chinese New Year reunion dinner this year, my family headed down to Pu Tien Restaurant (莆田菜馆) at Kitchener Road again like last year. The restaurant serves Heng Hwa (兴化) cuisine, which btw, is my dialect group.

This year, Pu Tien offered on their CNY menu, the Hakka-originated, Cantonese-modified luxurious delight – Poon Choi or Pen Cai. It’s basically a stewed pot filled with vegetable and lots of goodies like abalone, scallops, dried oysters, sea cucumbers and braised pork.

Eating a bowl of Pen Cai alone was filling enough for the evening. Yummy.

Here are the photos taken this evening:

  1. Hi Alvin,

This year any good recommendation for Poon Choi? I have been searching around for quite a while….so far futile.

    Thanks.
