Earlier this month, LG Electronics unveiled its 2015 TV Lineup, including LG’s game-changing Curved OLED 4K TV (65EC970T), SUPER UHD TV (UF950T), 105-inch CURVED ULTRA HD TV and 98-inch ULTRA HD TV.

I attended the media launch and got to experience the range of televisions firsthand. Below are some highlights. Note that the prices for many of the models are not revealed yet. Here are the available price list at the moment:

4K OLED TV

LG is the first in the world to introduce the OLED TV with 4K Resolution. The 65EC970T boasts the market’s most cutting-edge technologies — its curved panel is composed of organic light-emitting diodes in ULTRA HD 4K quality.

The TV utilizes LG’s proprietary Four-Color Pixel WRGB technology. 33 million sub-pixels work to produce vivid, life-like colors and infinite contrast ratio. The result is a viewing experience close to reality. The self-lighting pixels give richer, brighter and more natural hues as well as perfect blacks.

The 65EC970T is supported by a flowing, leaf-shaped stand to accentuate the curved screen. For installation flexibility, the TV can be wall mounted. Designed to accommodate wide viewing angles, viewers sitting in any area of the room can enjoy exceptional picture quality.

Completing the viewing experience is LG’s multi-channel ULTRA SURROUND sound system. Designed in tandem with audio expert harman/kardon, ULTRA SURROUND creates a rich, detailed environment that brings entertainment immersion to the next level.

The 65EC970T has earned plaudits around the world. Digital Trends, a major media outlet for technology news and expert product reviews, touts it the “Best TV Ever”. Reviewed.com echoes this sentiment, believing that LG’s brainchild deserves all the superlatives used to describe it. Les Numeriques, one of France’s first electronics review online magazines gave the 65-inch LG OLED 4K TV a five-star review.

SUPER UHD TV

Joining LG’s array of revolutionary TV models is UF950T, a SUPER UHD TV which is backed by LG’s ColorPrime Technology. The ColorPrime technology, ULTRA Luminance, In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel and a SUPER Mastering Engine are the salient features.

LG’s ColorPrime technology magnifies the range of colors that can be displayed on screen. It is capable of rendering a wider range of hues and shades, thereby creating greater image depth and realism. The ULTRA Luminance technology improves the extended expression range of brightness with higher peaks and enhanced contrast ratio. Equipped with LG’s IPS panel, the UF950T can render detailed images up to 178 degree viewing angles. In addition, the SUPER Mastering Engine optimises the settings of the TV to boost picture quality to premium, cinema-like levels.

Buoyed by SUPER Design features, the UF950T is designed to be compact and beautiful with a razor-thin, 8.5mm ULTRA Slim display. The TV is supported by the Auditorium Stand, which doubles up as a sound reflector to centralize the sound output.

For the SUPER UHD TV lineup, LG has once again teamed up with harman/kardon. The UF950T imparts deep and rich sound quality that incorporates 4.2 Ch. 60W speakers and ULTRA Surround system. The frontal-oriented Speaker creates even greater sound authenticity by firing the sound forward toward the viewer. LG’s Smart Sound Mode then automatically selects optimal sound settings to clarify and crystallise individual sound characteristics.

With this flagship product, LG can continue to define its brand as synonymous with life-like picture quality, sophisticated design and nifty smart features,” said Scott Jung, Managing Director of LG Electronics Singapore.

Enhanced User Experience via webOS 2.0

webOS 2.0 is available in selected LG’s 2015 OLED 4K TVs and ULTRA HD 4K TVs, the latest version of LG’s advanced smart TV platform. In addition to being faster, webOS 2.0 delivers a simpler, easier and more intuitive experience with an enhanced user interface and a raft of impressive features.

I wrote about webOS previously. Singaporeans would be pleased to know that the guy who designed this platform is a fellow Singaporean based in Silicon Valley, Colin Zhao:

21: 9 CURVED ULTRA HD TV

LG’s 2015 TV Lineup also sees the introduction of 105UC9T, a 105-inch ULTRA HD TV with 5K resolution. With a resolution of over 11 million pixels (5120 x 2160) and CinemaScope 21:9 aspect ratio, the immense screen on LG’s 105UC9T turns any room into a movie theater.

The 105UC9T achieves its superior picture quality on the 5K resolution through LG’s True 4K Engine Pro and IPS Panel. True 4K Engine Pro eliminates visual errors and can upscale lower-resolution content into near-Ultra HD quality while the IPS Panel provides consistent contrast, true-to-life colors and a wide viewing angle.

LG’s TV also delivers incredible audio through a built-in 7.2 channel, 150W sound system. Incorporating LG’s ULTRA Surround concept and developed in partnership with harman/kardon, the speaker array produces a powerful and rich audio experience worthy of an actual movie theater.
