On Board Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas – Day 1 of 5

My Royal Caribbean Adventure

Together with Royal Caribbean, omy.sg sent an entourage of ten bloggers onboard Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas (LOTS) for a 5D4N, Isles of Southeast Asia tour in early December, with stopovers in Port Klang, Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand.

The ten bloggers are Darren, Catherine, Cherie, Muiee, Yee Leong, CalvinTimo, Eunice, Keropokman, Chrispytine and Estelle.

I was one of the working crew who followed along, together with Phyllis, Nicole and James from Royal Caribbean; Stanley from DraftFCB; and my colleagues, Weiding and Ming Choy from omy.sg.

The ten bloggers will be writing about their experience with LOTS on a shared blog – http://blog.omy.sg/royal-caribbean. Readers are encourage to vote and support your favourite blogger to help him/her win a 7D5N Mediterranean fly-cruise with Royal Caribbean. Voters also stand to win prizes worth over $3700 in value.

Do check out the shared blog, there’s lots of exciting photos and videos there. If you are looking to planning a cruise vacation, the shared blog is a great information source with valuable travel tips and to-do lists.

On the first day, we boarded LOTS at around 11am, after checking in our luggage and filling up all the necessary travel documents. Most of the bloggers had done their online check-in a few days earlier and were able to breeze through the check point. This can be done on the official Royal Caribbean website and saves you much time and hassle checking in.

Although our room will only be ready after 2pm, we were free to wander around the ship and make use of its wide array of facilities, including the dining areas.

Being typical Singaporeans, we all headed to the Windjammer restaurant for a heavy International buffet brunch first. Spoilt for choice by the wide cuisine selection, I had quite a few servings while chatting with the bloggers and getting the other logistics arrangement settled with the working crew.

When I checked into our triple-sharing room with my other two omy.sg colleagues at 2pm, we were pretty happy with the spacious room area. Initially when we first stepped in, there was a twin-sharing queen bed and the third bed was not lowered from the ceiling yet. We made a call to housekeeping and by the time we came back to our room later part in the evening, three single beds magically appeared.

The rest of the day was mostly spent planning the itineraries and shooting schedules for the bloggers.

There was a short emergency drill at 4pm which everyone on the ship has to attend. There are over 2000 passengers on board LOTS and over 600 Royal Caribbean staff. The emergency drill is about the only time when you can see everyone gathered in the same location.

For dinner, we dined at the exquisite Romeo & Juliet (R&J) restaurant which will be the regular dinner venue for all of us for the next three nights.

There’s a head waiter and assistant waiter assigned to each table at R&J. Service standard was meticulous and there’s always a new menu everyday with a good variety of different starters, main courses and deserts.

I love beef and had steak for most of the nights. An observation I made at R&J was that female diners really love to eat deserts and would usually order many portions to share together. The female bloggers in our group were no exception.

After dinner, we headed to the entertainment centre to catch the welcome performance, featuring a talented juggler/singer/songwriter.
